Managing Real Estate Broker with Fathom Realty PB00068179

An Wang was born in Shanghai, China back in 1920. His father taught English at an elementary school and his mother was a homemaker. Graduating from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 1940 with a degree in electrical engineering. He emigrated to the United States attending Harvard University earing a PhD in applied physics in 1948.

After graduation, he invented something we still use to this day, more on that later. He started his own engineering business in 1951 as a sole proprietorship. His patent was issued in 1955, and as they say the rest is history. By 1970, his company had sales of 27 million and 1,400 employees.

By 1989, he employed an estimated 30,00 people headquartered in Tewksbury, Massachusetts and later Lowell, Massachusetts. He died of cancer in 1990 at 70.

What you may not know about An is that he founded Wang Laboratories, his invention was the magnetic core memory, a basic component of random access memory or RAM as we know it today.

Until tomorrow give someone the free gift of a smile.

I first thought you left off an 'n' in your title and then read that An was a man (by use of 'he')! Now I get it and WOW, to have 30K employees - WOW - and what an invention he made. Without it, where would we be technology-wise?

Thanks for sharing, James!
