Why They Aren't Opening Your Emails

Real Estate Technology with Zurple

Are you worried about your real estate leads NOT opening your emails? Or have you given up on email marketing because you aren't seeing a return? We have some advice for you!

Here is How to Get People to Open Your Emails

1. Personalize the Email

Have you ever gotten an email from Amazon, Walmart, or any other major retailer? Chances are you only open 1 out of every 100 emails they send. Not only because of the frequency, but also because the subject lines don't appeal to you. How do you make them appealing to you? Make it about YOU, or in this case the person you are sending it to. Here are some examples:

  • {Person's Name} Referred me to You
  • One More Thing
  • I have a Question!
  • I called, you didn't answer
  • I need your opinion

2. Similar Interests

Another reason you aren't opening up that 4th of July promo email from retailers about barbecue grills on sale, is because you already have a barebcue grill...so why do you need to read about the deals? This also applies to home sellers and home buyers.

  • Prices in {neighborhood} are increasing!
  • Why other agents can't help you
  • What you should know about the {area} housing market
  • I heard you're looking for a home

3. Mystery

You know what entices people to read emails? Vague statements. Read these examples:

  • {No Subject Line}
  • Where do you go from here?
  • Here's whats next
  • It’s better if you didn’t know

4. Urgency

You know all about urgency. It leads to people making quick decision because they only have a limited window of time. Use that to your advantage to encourage reading your emails.

  • There’s still time
  • Only a few seats left!
  • It ends today
  • Why you should buy/sell in {area} while you still can

Good thoughts and thanks for sharing Zurple Marketing Team. The sense of urgency ones for me anyway are more of a turn off than just a regular email. There are just too many that are addressed that way, it lis like "crying WOLF!". I do like the others better though.

Thanks for the tips. We are so inundated with e-mails. Even when they sound great, many go unread.

YOu can use email to market your services but A/B testing is important when sending larger amounts. An individual email must also be used with a strategy.    I mostly concern myself with the opt out rate and open/click thru rate. After that it becomes all about the close rate. The next area of concern is the quality and hygiene of your list and don't forget to grow that list each week.

Beautiful.  Great ideas.  Thanks for pointing these ideas out.  Yes, the header is very important to the reader -- whether or not the message is read or trashed.

Zurple, thanks for giving me a few things to pay attention to when sending marketing materials. Applies to more than just emails.
