Preparation for Change!

Life is full of changes. This year has had several BIG changes for  my family and I. Undoubtedly the biggest change was our daughter Tina moving away for college leaving us with an empty bedroom and a huge hole in what was our daily routine in home life.

The next really big change was my retirement as a Real Estate agent. That change was intended to give me more time to enjoy life and more freedom to do what I wanted to do before leaving Earth. So far the only thing that change has brought about is a lack of income.

Living in a part of the world where the change of seasons is easily identifiable by the weather we have to make some changes that may seem pretty drastic to folks who experience minimal or no change in climate.

While today was not the first day of preparation for the upcoming change of seasons it was certainly one of marked changes as you will see from these pictures.

bikes and snow thrower

Today we went for what was most likely our last family bike ride of 2018 AND as you can see from the picture I got the snow thrower out and ready because the first blizzard could be any day. We went for a nice ride today but at 50 degrees it's nippy on the hands and ears.

leaves, tiller, and pumpkin bags

On this picture the most obvious site is that the trees are bare (leaves in the pumpkin bags in front of the play house) and also the tiller is out as I started to till my garden today.

The Lill Pumpkin that Could.

Even the little pumpkin that I brought into the house after I accidentally severed it's vine knows it's time for change. It's only got a week if it wants to be a Jack-O-Lantern and I can almost hear it say: "I think I can, I know I can".

Like it or not, our lives are full of change.

Thanks Lottie Kendall , what a wonderful profile picture for an agent in San Francisco. Tina sure did make a big change and I think she regrets the distance at times but she loves living in downtown Milwaukee.

Change whether good or bad seems to be a tough road to travel.  The change of seasons is enough change for me!

Bob "RealMan" Timm My son will be leaving for college in four years. Awful to think about him not being around. Wonderful to think about him becoming the terrific young man I know he'll be.

It would be enough for me too but it seems like God likes to throw plenty of change my way Francine Viola .

It is scary Lauren Williams, CPO , I never would have thought it would effect me as much as it has. My son is 17 and I'm hoping he decides to go to college right here in Minot ND.

Bob "RealMan" Timm I don't dare teach my son to drive!

Lauren Williams, CPO , oddly enough it's my daughter who has the lead foot and my son drives so cautiously it drives me crazy.

It is easy to be a tad nostalgic this time of year.  And, I can identify with adjustment that can come as one attempts or successfully transitions into retirement.  I tried to fully retire once in 2005.  I found myself crocheting doilies at the Senior Center on Tuesday mornings, and a few other activities.  It took me only a few weeks to realize I needed to put the pedal to the meddle for a few more years.  I just wasn't ready.

WOW, I could never see you making dollies Myrl Jeffcoat , maybe sky diving to keep you occupied in retirement . I know I will be busy as long as the Lord gives me good health but I want to be busy with the projects of my own choice.

Thank you for the Feature! You know I love that Myrl.

Morning William.

I retired once for 30 days.  I'm the type of guy who thrives on having something to do, a place to be and an agenda.  Can't ever see me retiring, unless it is due to health reasons.

Wayne Martin by the time one adjust to the change of seasons in ND they change... except for winter, it lingers on entirely way to long.

Hi Bob... as someone once said, "the only constant in life is change." And that is so true. And change is fine so long as you have the right attitude to deal with it. For me it's a positive and an adventure and not a negative. But all your talk of cold weather had me wanting to crank up the heat and fireplac in my house.

So true Nina Hollander and what a great attitude. BTW cuddling up in front of a fireplace (with you) sounds like heaven.

It went really fast this year Grant Schneider . I would say it's been less than a month ago that they started to change and then we had temps 30 degrees below the norm for about 10 days plus a lot of wind. Now we have bounced back with above average temps.
