A place called Harmony AR. Great memory. Church in background.

Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Advantage

Cliff Wiggs Harmony AR sister small town

A happy child at Harmony.

Working in real estate brings new friends.  My blog has several Searcy Sleuths as neighbors who help me track Searcy news, myths, and history.  They also provide great pictures for sharing.  The above picture comes as a result of my trying to track the history of 9.26 acres of land at Harmony.  "Where's that?"  You may ask and I admit I did the same.

Harmony is just a few short miles from Center Hill on Highway 305 headed toward Romance.  Clifton Wiggs owns the land and it is for sale right now.  Harmony was once a thriving community and he and his family lived there.  He rode a bus to Searcy Schools and planned at one time to retire at Harmony and build a house on his land.  Plans change.

There were at least two churches at Harmony.  He sent this picture of his sister on her tricyle to show there was a church across the street from the family home.  I loved the picture of a happy little girl on an old tricycle at a town with the lovely name of Harmony.  An old saying goes this way......Hwy 36 West leads to Joy, Harmony, and Romance.....

Thanks, Clifton, for sharing the picture and trusting me with the marketing of your land.

Good morning Barbara. I really love those pictures and stories you tell about your area.

Homer Wilson used to say that you drive out of town on Pleasure St. to Joy, Harmony and end up in Romance.

My memory is "Pleasure Street leads to Joy, Harmony, and Romance".

Wow, great job! I love it. If I may, I'd like to make one small correction. The old saying is, Pleasure (Pleasure street) leads to --------

Did you know, that there is a lot of rich history concerning Harmony. For instance, (No 1) Des Arc township, in Harmony is named for Des Arc Creek which runs through Harmony. I used to wonder why and how it would be called Des Ark Township when the town of that name was so far away. It was not until many years later, that I learned that it was named for a post office of that name (supposed to have been the oldest in Ar.) located on the old military road, in the hills of western Harmony. (2) Dug Out Mtn. was so named because the confederate army "dug out" the old road, which goes straight up the mountain, not slanted as the paved highway does now. (3) All my life I heard the old story of buried gold. Seems we of Harmony were not  the only ones, as it's mentioned on pp. 44,45, of Searcy Ar. A Frontier Town Grows Up by Raymond Lee Muncy. The Miles Redding mentioned there I am told is supposed To be Red Miles, father of Larry. Just a little about a place called Harmony. Could tell more, of Indian artifacts, etc. but must go.

One could also say after getting to Romance that Romance leads to Joy, Harmony, and Pleasure (street)
