~ Facebook Marketing Tips ~

Buying Facebook likes or followers...Many are tempted yet few succeed! It is fools gold that should be avoided. We want real consumers leaving real comments on our content, not an inflated vanity number that does nothing to help you generate new prospects and leads. Build your presence the old-fashioned way and you will be better off both short and long-term.

Here are 5 reasons why buying FB likes or followers is a bad idea:

  • Purchased Likes will NOT become clients. They were not interested to begin with so your chances of converting them to future clients are incredibly low, maybe even nil.
  • You Could Alienate Your Existing Followers. It is fairly easy to spot content that is being artificially pumped up, commented on, or liked. Your followers will catch on and either move on or stop seeing your content in their feeds.
  • FB is Watching. They have made it a point to publicize their attempts to clean up the site. That means they are looking for fishy or spammy inputs. I don't know about you but I have invested too much time into getting leads to have them delete my page because of something avoidable.
  • Consumers Do Not Care. Anytime I have been looking for a service via FB, I have always used the one that provided quality information and was quick to respond to my inquiries. Not once was the number of likes or followers considered in my choice. Vanity statistics do not sell, quality content makes the phone ring!
  • Damage to Your Reputation. Is spending $50 to inflate your numbers worthing potentially damaging your reputation over? It is not worth it. The gain is negligable at best so why risk your hard earned reputation to "beat" the system. In the end, you lose.

Instead, roll up your sleeves and earn the followers, likes, and comments you receive. This is the preferred (and only IMHO) path towards more prospects and future clients.

Just like Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD are doing over on YouTube Thursdays, PLEASE stop by the 5 Facebook Business Pages below, LIKE their page, and leave a comment. It is always nice to reciprocate, so if you are visited, please take a moment and return the favor.

As always, enjoy Rainers!

i did not know such a thing was possible, but will certainly avoid it, if the opportunity arises.

I don't but real friend, so why buy virtual ones?

Great advice Anita Clark as always...and it is amazing how easily "likes" can be purchased and the assumption is that it is a GOOD thing !

A hard lesson to learn, Fergie. Good to hear you only seek organic traffic now.

Brian: I assume it is to try and beat the system. That seldom works.

It works so much better when we earn it. Thanks Elisa.

Abby: Yes indeed, those are two cornerstones of having a quality social media presence.

It is definitely a recipe for disaster, Sally.

Great advice and solid reasoning behind it.

I always have people who want to sell my likes, they even get a bunch to follow me. A few days later they unfollow. That is one reason I have never purchased likes or followers.

John: Yes, they do unfollow. Or they are fake and they serve no benefit.

You are very welcome, Ben. Thanks for stopping by. ;-)

I disagree in a few ways and agree in a few ways.

I agree with they may not become clients but you are adding likes to puff youself up, no different than giving a like on this page. way too many other factors or we  would all be rich agents with no competition.

not to say I want bad reputation, but some bad reputations can highly influence and increase your business these days.  I say I'm a Jesus following Christian... some will hate me and some love it.

these days it's scarry if you relate to anything.

Thanks Anita. I see your point yet would love to hear more ways in which to help build those likes organically. Seems I get lots of interaction with my posts, yet struggle to get new likes much!

Doyle: We will have to agree to disagree. IMHO there is no positive outcome to being deceitful by purchasing likes/followers.

Stephen: Run a few local contests. Each time I have done that my local viewership has gone up.

Glad to see in your comments above (#38) that you ARE still seeing value on your "just listed" FB Ads.    Curious - what's your recommended budget?

M.C. - Every ad or boost I do gets $20. No more, no less. I have tried different amounts and this sum gets me the most bang for the buck.

There really isn’t a cheap way to do it or way to cheat. You just have to keep it real literally and do what you have to do to maintain that relationship. Anita Clark
