How to Exercise at Home When You're Really Busy

By
Education & Training with Heidi Naturally

Whether you're a busy mom or business executive, finding ways to exercise at home is not as hard as you think. When you plan and focus, you can have a successful routine and get in better shape.

Know Why You Want to Exercise

If you're just thinking about exercising or know it's a good idea, you probably won't be successful. Think through your definite goals about why you want to commit to exercising at home.

Do you want to lose weight by a certain time? Are you concerned about your health and want to get moving? Do you want to inspire your children or co-workers to live a healthier life? Get this part clear and then you can move on.

Know the Time of Day you Will Exercise

Do you have more time in the morning, lunchtime, or evening? Put exercising on your calendar today! Make an appointment with yourself. I always thought you had to exercise in the morning but I am finding research that says it's good to exercise in the evening too. So I no longer feel guilty about exercising in the evening when my family is watching TV.

What Type of Exercise Can You Tolerate?

Do you like to walk, run, lift weights, work out with a video, jump on a trampoline, or something else? If you hate running, don't plan on creating a running routine for exercise! I know I will never leave my home to exercise so getting a gym membership for me is pointless. Start out with exercises that you have enjoyed in the past that fit in with your lifestyle.

Do you enjoy walking but have small children? Get out your stroller and start walking with your children. Do you like exercising to a set routine? Then find good YouTube videos that you like and turn those on during exercise time and follow the instructor.

Exercising at Home with Equipment

Although you can exercise with equipment, it's not absolutely necessary. Depending on the person, equipment can motivate you and keep you going or it can drag you down and make you not want to exercise. Again, find what you enjoy doing and get equipment if necessary. I love my treadmill and mini trampoline but you may like just having good weights or exercising with a YouTube video.

The most important thing is choosing a time and type of workout that works for you. When you know why you want to exercise and have a plan in hand, you can be successful. I go into a lot more detail on this subject at Exercising at Home for Busy People. Read more ideas there.
