Nothing Like a Visit to the Kona DMV

Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Gold DRE #00697006

You've gotta admit, it is generally not the workers at the DMV who are the problem. It is the sysem established for handling the volume. I would think they would hire an efficiency expert or team to analzye the work-flow and to devise a system that better works.

Up until the RealID situation in California, our Sacramento DMV accepted appointments, and you could be in and out in 15 minutes. People complained because it could take a couple of hours. Well, that is NOTHING as compared to the Kona DMV. When I heard how long the wait was I almost decided to drive to the Waimea DMV because at least that would be an hour there and an hour back in air conditioned comfort.

I would absolutely take waiting in line outside in the heat in Kona over the dreary drizzle here. It is cold today and I am INSIDE the house working. When it is dreary outside, it seems to be colder inside even though my thermostat is set for the same temperature as always.

Glad to hear that you had some helpful people giving you directions. Personally, I find it interesting that you have to register your car in the correct county and island of the state. You would think that anywhere in the state would work.

Libby Cousins I know it's like all one state, right? But each island has different fees. Big Island is the least expensive. But still, they should make it easier and let people do it online by uploading documents first.

Elizabeth, waiting for more than 15 minutes is ridiculous, especially in the heat.

Having preset appointments is the best idea. We are all busy and need to use our time wisely.

Hi Elizabeth... I used to do the same here in Charlotte... drive to a neighboring county where there was less "traffic" at DMV. Now that we can make appointments, I do that... and have always been in and out in under 15 minutes.

Good morning Elizabeth. It is the same everywhere. My license actually lapsed this year and I went at a luicky time and was out in twenty minutes.

It is the process, not the individuals as you mention.  We do most DMV matters online, no share from me about waiting experiences

Hi Elizabeth- we just this morning had a conversation with a friend who had to renew his FL Driver's License. He went online and found that the wait was less if he drove to WPB about 20 minutes north of us rather than renew it here. You can renew online here but I'm not sure why he couldn't.

We used to have an older gentleman who greeted you at the door to make sure you were in the right place but I'm not sure what happened to him.
