Managing Real Estate Broker with Fathom Realty PB00068179

Margaret Floy was born in New York City, New York back in 1871 to Francis and Elizabeth. She was the only child so to pass time she read, long before she started school. In school, she learned French and German. In 1886, she graduated from high school at 15.   She entered Vassar College in Poughkeepsie graduating in 1891.

She continued her education at Cornell, however during that time Cornell hadn’t acknowledged the admission of females, so she earned her Master’s degree from Vassar.

After graduation, she went to work for Wells College in Aurora, New York. She stayed there 6 years before moving to Cornell working in the laboratories. In 1903, she returned to Vassar where she remained for the rest of her life. She suffered a stroke in 1937, never fully recovering she died in 1939, she was 68.

What you may not know about Margaret Floy Washburn is that she was the first woman to be granted a PhD in psychology. In 2002, she was ranked as the 88th, most cited psychologist of the 20th Century.

Until tomorrow give someone the free gift of a smile.

Good morning, James Dray that's sad to read Margaret Floy Washburn died at such a young age.... she was obviously a leader in that field for future women whose focus was psychology....and no one ever mentions her name!

Loved this story, reminded me of the days when I used to know many Vassar students since they loved to come up to USMA for the dances and the mixers, Endre
