In news that shows the growing importance of Midtown Atlanta as a tech hub and innovation center location, financial giant BlackRock, Inc. (NYSE: BLK) will put a new innovation center in Atlanta. It's projected to employ 1,000 people.

BlackRock's new Atlanta innovation hub could take up to 200,000 square feet of office space in Midtown Atlanta, where Georgia Institute of Technology (GATech) is located.

Known as "Project Sky" in the development circles, BlackRock has tapped JLL to look for the space for the new center. News articles say BlackRock will most likely occupy temporary space while it looks for a permanent home. This would be good news for developers that have a couple new office projects planned. Landing a tenant of this size would certainly spur the construction of anyone of these buildings.

Midtown AtlantaIn a company internal memo provided to the Atlanta Business Chronicle, BlackRock called out Atlanta as a "market with skilled and diverse talent pools to constantly innovate how we operate." The memo goes on to say, "Atlanta adds to our capabilities in leading technology centers offering proximity to top universities, including Georgia Tech, one of the most foremost engineering schools, where we are proud to sponsor the BlackRock Hallac Scholarship for socioeconomically disadvantaged students pursuing STEM degrees."

Atlanta has the third highest concentration of Fortune 500 companies in the United States, with companies like Home Depot, Coca-Cola, UPS and Delta Air Lines calling it home. In recent months, Midtown Atlanta has seen numerous announcements of start-ups or incubators being opened around the Technology Square area of GATech.

And with the addition of that kind of employment center, those employees will be looking for living opportunities in Midtown Atlanta. Midtown is currently seeing a tremendous growth in new apartment communities which will be one option for BlackRock employees. But, for those looking to plant more permanent roots, there are numerous Midtown Atlanta condominiums that will most likely be with in walking distance of the new innovation hub.

We look forward to helping BlackRock employees call Midtown Atlanta home! Of course, we know that some individuals or families may be looking for other single family communities, and access to transit, and we are ready to help them in areas like Brookhaven and Chamblee, both which have MARTA transit stations.
