My Favorite Neighborhood Halloween Haunts

We are lucky because we live in a neighborhood with lots of children and an active HOA. Each year there is a Halloween Parade with a Photobooth, food truck and healthy treats. After that, everyone heads out to try to get as much “unhealthy” treats as they can.

The decorating begins before September ends and one of the things that we enjoy doing on our walks is looking at all of the creatively decorated homes.

My decorating is kept to a minimum only because anything we did would pale in comparison to some of the homes. My sense of Halloween humor is the witch on a broomstick who has slammed into a tree. I have no idea why but I find that hilarious.

We have a few homes with huge blow-up ghouls and lots of spider webs covering the shrubs.

I must admit that those scary clown creatures are almost gone.  Just one left. I don’t do clowns...and they’re all scary to me.

Those are very creative neighborhood halloween hautns, Kathy!  When I first moved into my neighborhood in 1969, there were a gazillion children.  However, over the decades we have become older, our children are grown, and we see fewer trick or treaters.  I kind of miss them.

I haven't even done a jack-o-lantern this year.  The kiddos will at least get candy though.

Hi Kathy Streib - These are really great photos. I haven't lived in a neighborhood with children in many, many years.  So it is fun to see the decorations!

Thank You!

Wayne Martin I love it!!!!! Can you get some photos for us?

Barbara Todaro one of the reasons I love Halloween is that there are very few if any family pressures to attend functions!  And I love the free spirit of it.

Michael Jacobs mine finally fell apart a few years ago and I haven't found one like it since then. There have been others but not quite like the one I had.

Hi Joe Pryor it's been fun seeing what some of the houses have come up with this year.

Me too Maria Sapio Last year we had a lot of Harry Potter kids out.

Grant Schneider our parade attracts kids from surrounding neighborhoods but I'm happy with that...the more the merrier.

Hi Scott Godzyk I wonder when all of this started because I don't remember this when I was a kid.

Ron and Alexandra Seigel I look at all of the decorations that some have out and all I can think of is having to pack everything up when it's all over!

Brian England when we lived on the water we never got any Trick or Treaters!!! This is more fun.

Myrl Jeffcoat I get it!  This is one of the reasons why we don't want to live in a 55+ community.

Chris Ann Cleland we stopped carving one when we moved to FL. It can be so hot here that if you carved it too early, the pumpkin turned to mush.

Morning Kathy.

I knew a cop who was scared to death about clowns. I remember once, when someone came in dressed in a clown suit, he ran out of the building.

It is usually the trick or treat part where Halloween shines best with the kids zooming in for the treats. Some can't even wait for the candy to be given so much that they are all smiles when they are at the door.

That sounds like a fun neighborhood! There are very few decorated houses near me, and we get NO trick or treaters.

No one around here decorates, and in 20 years we've never had a trick or treater come to the door. We just live too far away from any children.

However.. from what I've read, Halloween has become a big thing for the adults. An article a couple of years ago said that Americans spend more on Halloween than on Christmas (gifts aside, that is). When you add up the decorating, the costumes, the candy, the clothing, the dinnerware, etc. it's a huge money maker for retailers.
