October Let's Get Personal Challenge
Brian England has challenged ActiveRain bloggers to post a blog about their personal life and then answer any questions posed by members.
I was born in Portsmouth, Virginia and my home community was Cradock, one of America's first planned communities. Our first home was a duplex and my parents kept that property for their lifetimes after we moved to a new home, also a duplex, that they built before the birth of my younger brother. I attended public schools and my twin sisters were born when I was a senior at Cradock High School.
During high school, I was active with photography and had a dark room in one of commercial rental properties owned by my parents. One of my active interests was competitive indoor and outdoor rifle shooting and I had the opportunity to travel to many rifle matches in the United States and Canada. I became a Certified Rifle and Pistol Instructor at a young age. There were always guns in the family when I was young because my father was a police officer and we had a farm where rifle practice was a normal activity.
I was accepted as a student at the University of Virginia and received a Bachelor of Science Degree with a major in finance in three years by going to summer school for two sessions. During my college years, I was active in the photography club and was a member of the UVA rifle team. I am a life member of Alpha Kappa Psi, a business fraternity. I had the opportunity to live in a room on the Lawn, part of the original structures designed by Thomas Jefferson.
I attended the School of Law at University of Virginia. During my third year of law school, I obtained my Virginia Real Estate Broker license, my multiple line insurance licenses and passed the bar exam to become a member of the Virginia State Bar.
During the summer after I received by law degree, I opened my first real estate and insurance office in my hometown in a commercial space owned my my parents who at that point owned a number of rental properties.
Since I have already exceeded the 300 words required for this challenge, I will save the rest of my story for another time.
