Horse Trails in Nevada County are abundant. There are many "horsey" type communities that have deeded riding trails within their subdivisions, as well as a lengthly trail system in the Tahoe National Forest, Empire Mine State Park, Spenceville Wildlife Refuge and BLM land.
Trail Communities:
- Lake of the Pine Ranchos - about 26 miles of deeded trails with varied topography
- Emmigrant Trail -This deeded trail runs through three subdivisions, Golden Oaks, Sunshine Valley and Lodestar.
- Quail Hill Acres - Deeded trail system
- Cole Country Estates - Deeded trail system
- MacDonald Road - Deeded Equestrian and Hiking Trail
- Many properties adjoin BLM and the Tahoe National Forest
- Horse Camp at Skillman
- Close to the Western States Trail System (home of the Tevis Cup 100 mile ride)
Nevada County has their own trail preservation association; Gold Country Trails Council (GCTC) which for the last 20 years has worked with the Tahoe National Forest to estalish new trails and maintain the the trails. They have a very good site which has maps of many of the local trails.
The Equestrian Land Conservation Resource is an organization that focuses on protecting America's Lane for future generations of horses and horse enthusiasts.founded in 1997 this group is a national non-profit organization dedicated to assisting all wholove, work with and ride horses to preserve land for equine use. They are dedicated to establishing partnerships across the spectrum of equine groups and with other land conservation organizations. Educating equine lovers about land conservation. Providing publications, seminars and direct assistance to individuals and groups and operate as an information clearinghouse.
