Thanksgiving and Gratitude

Fur... today I want to talk about the fur in my life I'm grateful for. The live kind with paws.  I recently had a sick day.  It was about 5 or 6 years ago since my last sick day.  First I am a well person and secondly I don't let little stuff keep me down, if I have work to do I can generally get it done without sharing my germs, but Wednesday last week I really couldn't get out of bed.

My two cats spent the day by my side. They don't not  even get along with one another, but when I was sick in bed they put their differences aside and slept with me until Donald got home. When I did make me way out of bed to let the dogs out they "did their business" and came back in right away with no foolishness (which is the norm- one of them will always find a bird or squirrel or deer outside the fence that they want to bark at for 15 minutes on the average morning) But when I was not feeling well they were both on their best behavior.

It's funny how they just seem to know when something isn't right.  I am very grateful for the fur babies in my life.

I currently have 4 at home

Skitty and Ittle Bitness are the cats, Glen and Laney are our doggies.   And I have an office Kitty too, her name is Meow Meow.

I am also grateful for those who have crossed the rainbow bridge... Gabby, Shop Cat, Mollee, Charlie, Black Boy, Murphy, Woodpile, Callie, Izzie and Gracie.

And I can't fail to mention Jack who lives with my parents who is a former office cat and my grand dogs Lexi and Daisy.

The photo I included is Shop Cat who was a rescue from a maintenance shop at GMC back in the mid 80s.  The photo was taken probably taken around 1993- Abigail looks about 5.

Tammy Lankford, - I'm sorry to hear you were sick but glad to know you're on the mend. What a great story and very true! Pets just have that 6th sense about them when their owners are not well. You told the story well of domestic animal behavior. I think it's especially interesting to know that your cats, put aside their differences and snuggled up next to you when you weren't feeling well. And for your dogs to not do what they normally do on your healthy days is pretty amazing! They really stepped up to the plates and switched roles, caring for you in the most loving way.

I hope you'll enter this one in the AR Contest for Debbie Reynolds. It's a good one! Loved the photographs too!

Stay well!

Patricia Feager It was a really bad day, but thankfully my fur babies did their part for making it better.  Donald made me soup when he got home too.  Thankfully the following few days although I had some lingering headache it wasn't so bad I couldn't function.

Dorie Dillard CRS GRI ABR it really is amazing.  My two cats are rarely even in the same room and never on the same piece of furniture. But last week they put their differences aside.  I lost a 3rd cat about a year and half ago and she was friendly go between of the cat bunch at our house.

Brian England the little one isn't very loving... she's full on "cat" She will demand petting on her terms, but not let you pick her up on  yours... but when I was sick she was really sweet all day.

Sheila Anderson we're tinkering with the idea of going petless as we near retirement. (all of our 5 are aging)  Thinking what we will do is just foster when we aren't traveling and volunteer at the local shelter. We're not sure. But we haven't been able to introduce a new one at our house because our aging group doesn't like change.

Ron and Alexandra Seigel There will be baby sitting (which I love) on Saturday and some old dear friends on Sunday so I'm planning on a great weekend.

Since Day 1 Liz came with furry ones of one sort or another.  Many have crossed over and some of our current crew of 18 are hitting senior citizenship. Half my annual real estate income probably goes to keeping them fed, housed and healthy.  I believe the vet should have named a new wing after us :)

Hi Tammy- hope all is now well with you. Our fur babies have a way of sensing when we need them most, don't they?

Liz and Bill Spear I have spread the love around with vets over the years.  Two of my favorites have passed away, thus we found new ones and we also don't have a 24 hour animal hospital with round the clock staff so when we have "that kind" of emergency we drive the hour to Athens GA and love them.  And yes, we certainly could have built an animal hospital on what we've spent in vet bills over the past 35 years of my adult life.

Kathy Streib I really only had the one totally awful day and am back to my usual good health.  A little tired today from a late night of baby sitting, but that will pass in a couple of days.

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD yup.  I'm yawning today a little because I kept my grandson last night and while he went to bed at 9 I was still at my daughter's house and then drove home when she got home from work at midnight, then an early morning appointment today, but I wouldn't trade babysitting for sleep.
