Grateful for the advice received from LeRoy Rose
ActiveRain Ambassador Debbie Reynolds has issued a November challenge to ActiveRain bloggers to write about things for which we are grateful. It is a good time to count our blessings, big and small. I like this challenge because it requires us to recall some of the meaningful times in our lives.
I went to Cradock High School in Portsmouth, Virginia. I really did not have a clear career path in mind even though my father had told people that I would be a lawyer for as long as I could remember. Nobody from my family had gone to college.
Fortunately, the Guidance Counselor was Mr. LeRoy Rose who happened to be a graduate of the University of Virginia. Based on his encouragement, I applied for admission and was accepted. This was life changing advice for me. I graduated from UVA with a finance major and went on to graduate from the School of Law at The University.
I do not recall ever speaking with Mr. Rose after I left high school but will be forever grateful for his advice and encouragement. He passed away on August 14, 2011, at age 90, in Williamsburg, Virginia.
