There are over 80 grown men over age 55 in the Over 55 Community where I live that love playing softball. I went to their softball championship game this week and it was evident how much they loving playing this game and how happy it makes them feel. Just look at those proud and smiles face in this photo.

Happy in retirement

This is a prime example of one of the best reasons for living in an active adult community, that is doing something you love to do with people you like.

Besides the joy of doing something you like, a season playing softball will get you into shape physically.  Here is the winning team in yellow below.

New friendships arise by doing activities you like with people with similar interests.  I know some of these guys from my pickleball playing. They are some of my friends. Having fun with friends is a key part of being happy in retirement.

I bet some of these guys were quite the ball players in their youth. But guess what, they still are!  I saw two home runs over the fense and one in the park home run. Some of the gloves these guys were using looked like they had been around a few years.

Competition in sports taught us all kinds of lessons when we are kids, didn't it. Guess what, competition is great at the over 55 age as well.  It makes you feel alive.  You see you can do things you didn't think you could do, or would ever do again. It motivates you to do better and to exercise.  Exercise is the best prescription there is, someone in my cardio class said this morning.

This is just one example of the many activities we have in our Over 55 Community. There is something for everyone, from bocce which anyone can play and be good at, to pickleball, water polo, tennis, biking, speed walking, trail hiking, and much more.

Bottom line: if you want to be happy in retirement, consider moving to an Over 55 Community!  I am glad Mary Ann and I did.
