In recent days I’ve noticed several ActiveRainers writing about the blessing of enjoying good health. Let me be another to espouse my gratefulness for enjoying that special gift. It hasn’t always been so! There were several years during the early 1990s when my health wasn’t always the best!
After finally working through a number of diagnoses to find the cause, and hoping to remedy it, I set out to improve what had been lost. Swimming has been an important component to that quest.
I’m fortunate to live near to a California Family Fitness facility, which has a great gym, and really nice swimming pools.
Swimming laps on winter evenings can sometimes have the pools looking like something out of Dante's Inferno, or maybe a witch-and wizard's gathering in a magical mist filled realm. It was one such evening that I experienced a breakthrough. The temperature of the air was much cooler than the 82° warmth of the pool. And, it was generating mists swirling upward into the air! The only illumination came from below, from the underwater lights, and through the whirling mists, it looked something like hell. In the lap pool, swimmers struggled back and forth - often two in each lane. They were barely visible and gave the impression of tortured souls in purgatory - Flitting about from one group of tortured souls to another in their section of the pool.
And there I was with them - but with one very defining realization. I was not in stress or pain, and as I looked downward in the pool, as I stroked through the water, the illumination of the lights, made me realize I was seeing a very bright and real light at the end of a tunnel. And, it was all a journey to stress free health!
This month Debbie Reynolds (the Real Debbie Reynolds) is hosting a 10 Day Thanksgiving Post Challenge. This is my Day 4 entry.
