The results are in and we are breaking down which top NAR-funded candidates won and which policies are set to help the real estate industry.
The Losers
Leonard Lance (R-New Jersey): Defeated by challenger, Tom Malinowski
John Faso (R-New York): Defeated by challenger, Antonio Delgado
Pete Sessions (R-Texas): Defeated by challenger and former NFL player, Colin Allred
Joe Donnelly (D-Indiana): Defeated by challenger, Mike Braun
Dean Heller (R-Nevada): Defeated by challenger, Jacky Rosen
The Winners
Andy Barr (R-Kentucky): Won, defeating Amy McGrath.
The NAR funneled funds to Barr because he backs FHA rule changes to benefit homebuyers. He also voted for the Economic Growth, Regulatory Relief, and Consumer Protection Act.
Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio): Won, defeating Jim Renacci
The NAR set its sites on Brown because of his stance on mortgage loan forgiveness. Brown supports making the Mortgage Forgiveness Debt Relief Act of 2007 permanent. This would negate the need for continued votes on extensions.
Still Undecided
Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Mississippi): Will head to a Senate race on November 27th. She is up against Mike Espy (D) for the Senate seat. Hyde-Smith has a history as a proponent of property-owners’ rights.
Kyrsten Sinema (D-Arizona): Pending vote counts. Sinema is currently ahead in the polls.
Katie Porter (D-California): Pending vote counts. Porter currently is behind in the polls.
What are your thoughts on how the 2018 election will impact the real estate industry?
