If I were to ask, "What is treasure to you?" I would get a lot different answers, but I have one answer that hasn't changed for 36 years. My wife, Buffy, is the greatest treasure in my life. I've written about her many times, but I never get tired of sharing how blessed I am. I still call her "the first wife," and she calls me her late husband. Should I worry?
When Buffy and I married, I thought she was the smartest person I had ever met. I still think that. She inspired me to pursue a broad education and I have been thankful for her encouragement during that process. She has encouraged me in every endeavor I've entered into. She has been by my side throughout much of our marriage. She has worked in the office with me, painted rentals, cleaned carpets, hauled construction debris to the dump and a host of other things throughout those years.
We have laughed until we cried. We have cried until we laughed. We have raised two amazing sons together. We have had a pack of dogs we both have loved and lost. We've bought homes, created businesses and we have supported each other through the good and bad times.
I can't imagine life without her. She is my best friend and my biggest supporter, and that is true both ways. I love seeing her succeed, and it makes me proud to see her recognized for her skill and accomplishments. I truly believe God placed her in my life to help me become the man I am. I hope that I have added an equal contribution to her life. Thankfulness is appreciating the treasure in your life. Buffy is my treasure.
