Kathleen Daniels is a Realtor and Broker-Manager of KD Realty and NeedProbateHelp in San Jose.

This is Day 4 entry into the ActiveRain challenge hosted by Debbie Reynolds. We've been asked to share the joys, what blesses us the most, and why it is a blessing.

Day 4 - I am so thankful for the blessing of my home. This rings particularly true in light of my awareness that so many California residents lost their home last year in the Santa Rosa fire and this year in the fires that are still ongoing in Malibu and the fire that destroyed the small town of Paradise.

Many lives were lost as well and the count continues to increase.  Housepets were lost as well found covered in ash.

Homeowners set their horses and other animals free to give them a chance of survival.

It's all truly unimaginable and yet it is happening.  It is all so dark and depressing.

It is a blessing that so many people are uniting and coming together to help.

 Condo community in San Jose

I've always been thankful for my home. My little condo as I a call it.

It is my safe haven - my own personal sanctuary.

Many memories have been created in my home. I've experienced many joyful loving times with my family and friends in my home.

Being thankful for my home is keenly heightened as I look into the San Jose skies and see and smell smoke from fires hundreds of miles from my home.

The amplitude of my gratitude is much greater as I think of the loss and devastation that so many people are experiencing today.

Thank you, Debbie Reynolds for hosting the Thanksgiving Challenge

Hello Kathleen- - -each of our "safe havens" offer a respite from the outside world. Creating/maintaining that reality has a sense of thankfulness that we create.

Hi Kathleen- having your own personal sanctuary is truly a blessing. It's where you can keep the outside world out and renew yourself.

A home should be a place for joys to happen and a safe harbor and sanctuary. I am glad you have all of that, Kathleen.

Oh my, you said exactly what the rest of us are feeling, Kathleen. I don't have smoke but, every time I hear a story about the fires, it just breaks my heart. I'm also so very thankful that I still have my sanctuary too - our homes are, indeed, a big part of our hearts.

Everything that happened in California, and now the earthquake in Alaska, our homes are certainly something we should not take for granted. -Kasey
