I am truly thankful for so many things that this contest is not at all difficult for me and let me tell you why that is.

About 20 years ago I had an appointment with my chiropractor who I had been seeing for a very long time and I always noticed how happy he was no matter what was going on around him or in his personal life.

So one day I asked him, "Jim how do you always stay so happy" and he responded, "I think writing a thank you letter to God every morning gets me on the happy path for the day, and I do so every morning while I have my coffee".

I looked at him like he was crazy and he looked at me and said: "Beth give it a go it really works".  I then responded with  "so you want me to write a thank you letter every day to God", and he responded with "yes", and I responded with "for what"?

After that response, he blasted me with "For what... how about starting with the fact that you can walk, then how about that you have the money for treatment.... blah, blah, blah... and he finished with... "Next time you come in to see me bring a list of 100 things that you want to Thank God for ".  I truly looked at him like he had lost his mind but knowing and loving Jim I agreed to do so.

Till this day I'm not sure how I ever made that list, but I did and now if Jim asked me to give him a list of a thousand things that I want to Thank God for I know it would be a very easy task.

Writing a daily thank you letter to God turned out to be the best thing I have ever done. Over 20 years have passed since I agreed to write that list for Dr. Jim and every morning since then unless I'm in an impossible situation I write a thank you letter to God.

One of the things I recently thanked God for was truck drivers. I never gave them a thought and then for whatever reason I started thinking about what our lives would be like if we didn't have truck drivers.  I mean just take a minute and think about that.... how would we get all that we have and need if not for truck drivers???

Driving a truck all day and even all night for some can't be an easy job but I tell you the truth when I tell you that since that thank you that I sent to God I always feel thankful when I see one on the road and ask that God bless them always.

I will always be thankful to Jim for telling me to write that list and just maybe after reading my story you will give it a go and then watch how your life changes.

I love this!!!!  We are so fortunate for what we have and it's so important to count our blessings every morning when we wake up. We have to thank God for all that He's given us.

What a wonderful post. I've always thought that being a truck driver would be a thankless job. I know I'd hate to do it. So I'm thankful for them as well!

And this was post could count as two thankful posts since you're also thankful that you started a daily thank you letter!

B & R, that is a great post. I just had two 14 hour drives and saw thousands of truckers. I know some don't like to drive in the same progression as truckers, but personally, I find it comforting. These are some of the best drivers in the world. I rarely feel cautious around them. I know they want to get home to their families as bad as I want to get to my destination. I'm with you on this. Thank God for truckers.

I really loved this and I'm so happy that Kathy shared it this week.

I'm currently on an extended road trip and rather than be frustrated or anxious with all the huge trucks on the highway, I've been actually saying to my husband how lucky we are to have them doing what they do. Funny, now to read your post to confirm it. LOL

Love the concept of thank you letters to God. I have not written themout daily, but I was challenged once to stop and think of everything I am grateful for on a daily basis. Next step, to actually speak it out loud because we beleive what we hear, and gratitude is something that will always take us to the next level of growth and put on on the road that your chiropractor was on, where we can be thankful in all situations. I was challenged to put this to the text just last week with a kidney stone. I have had them before and I just kept on saying what I was grateful for in life (everything else but the kidney stone). It passed in record time!

Beth, I have a special insight into this subject. My family owned a “Mack Truck” dealership for 65 years. I learned to drive on an old early sixties Mack, with two gear sticks in it. When you went between high and low range or low to highyou had to take both hands off the steering wheel to shift. Truck driving is very stressful!!!! The biggest problem is the thing will not stop very fast, nor does it change lanes very easily. The biggest thing for a driver is that from the first time you get behind the wheel, and ever time there after it is abundantly clear this thing will kill you. We  all know this about any motor vehicle, but most people don't think about it when they get in their car. I have always said that when a driver gets a intruck and is no longer afraid it’s time to quit. I have not known many lifelong drivers who lived into old age.

Beth, this is so wonderful! I try to write in my gratitude journal every day. I have a friend who has a prayer of thanks for waking up each morning. It sets you right in your world and allows others to bask in your Godliness. Good for you (and for Dr. Jim). This contest has brought some interesting stories to light.

Having worked with a company that had a fleet of drivers, you would be amazed at the stories these employees tell. Getting cut off by cars is one of them. In my tenure at this company, we had two trucking accidents within 2 years. The first cost the life of a tractor trailer driver, who had rear ended our truck. Thankfully, our employee was okay. The second accident was about 9 months later. A brand new first day on the road tractor trailer crossed the line and hit out tractor trailer, killing the driver. It was one of the hardest moments of my HR years. Pray for these families who lost loved ones.

Ten days ago, my BFF's husband was supposed to be commutie to work with a co-worker.  He chose to drive separately that morning. During his drive, he came upon an accident that had just happened. A car had pulled out in front of a tractor trailer. The tractor trailer driver survived. The driver of the car was alive until the rescue crews cut him out of the car. He expired at the scene. My friend's husband got in the car and talked with his co-worker until rescue crews arrived.  Yes, the driver of the car was his co-worker and he could have been in the car. Another reason to add to a thank you God letter.

Great story. Being grateful and having that mission first thing in the morning is a super idea!  And you're right.  Truckers provide a thankless opportunity for us to locate, purchase any item we are looking for!

Why do people not realize that big trucks cannot stop instantly? For a few years we had a tragedy here every summer with kids pulling out in front of log trucks - the parents lost their children and the truck drivers had to live with the horror of running over them.

Yes, I am thankful that there are those who are willing to do that thankless job.

And, while I don't write my thoughts every day, I do take time throughout the day to be grateful for everything from hot running water to the ability to read Active Rain posts.

Truck drivers are a blessing. We wouldn't have our products or food without their dedication and service. Thanks Beth.
