Grateful for My Childhood

Today I have been thinking about what I am grateful for. There are so many things to be thankful for .Speaking to so many people in the last several weeks I must say one  of the things was my childhood

.

Growing up in a time where your social life was really social . You played with other children not computers , Xboxes or iPpads or IPhones .  I lived in the city we played in the driveways after school and after dinner . We played ball , hopscotch and hoola hoops . We sang songs on the corners went to dances . Life was much more simple then it is today .

If our friends died it was because they fought in the Vietnam War  Not from an overdose of opioid . Yes I am grateful that my Mother and Father taught me respect for my elders and teachers  . I would never think of picking up a gun and shooting others . There were no metal detectors when I went to school . No fear that there would be a mass shooting that children have today . I worry about my grandchildren every time I hear there is a shooting . Is it their school?

Times have changed and change can be good . I look back and I am grateful that I grew up in a  uncomplicated time where life was unpretentious . There is so much good in this world . If  only we could rid this world of the evil . I remember asking my Father what nationality are we he would answer "We are Americans " and for that I am so grateful Pictured above are my sister , me and my my Mom on the far right .

Those were simpler times. I remember hop-scotch, playing school, ball, hide and seek, hula hoops and skipping rope. We had to be called into dinner. There were very few junk foods back then. Meals were healthy. No dessert after every meal either.

Debbie Reynolds  we had dessert but it was fresh fruit . My parents would freeze fresh fruit like strawberries  and peaches my father felt it was important to have a balanced meal .  He also loved desert after dinner .

There were a lot of benefits of growing up decades ago. Kids were outside almost all the time. In general I think they were more active and more creative.

Hi Hannah,
I am grateful I was born in the era I was..  I am happy with my life now but those were definitely less complicated times.  Perhaps our parents would disagree because they had the responsibility of raising us. But it was a good time to be a child.

Barbara Todaro  I tell my grandson about these times and he looks at me in amazement . He loves his electronic devices and although he occasionally will play outdoors He can never comprehend the world we lived in . We were lucky weren't we to have a childhood  free of worries and packed with fun

Sheila Anderson  If I remember right you grew up not far from me . I was in Olney and you in Oak Lane

George Souto  I always wanted a different answer but it was the BEST and I agree with you

Thank you for your input I am thankful

Hannah

I am always happy to read about people that had a happy childhood. I didn't get that memo but I did connect well with my parents later in life.

Hannah, A wonderful look back.  It is a different world with more dangers it seems.  Yes life was more social before the social media devices.

Was that a truly horse drawn carriage you were on for the photo?
