The real estate market trend and homes sales were relatively flat in the last month (still strong year-to-date though), yet there are activities you can do to your home and in your neighborhood that will help improve or maintain homes values in any economic market.
Here are a few suggestions for maintaining your home values through any market:
- Talk to a real estate agent when you are considering doing an improvement to your home. There is such a thing as over-improving your home. If you choose improvement projects that are nicer than the majority of the other homes in your neighborhood, this does not necessarily mean that this will add value to your home if you decide to sell.
- Encourage all of your neighbors to maintain their homes and the curb appeal of their homes. Start a “Yard of the Month” contest or decorations contest to foster relationships and community involvement. Making the neighborhood an inviting and beautiful place to live will go a long way in any real estate market.
- Start a neighborhood watch or get involved if you already have a neighborhood watch. Crime can quickly deter buyers from paying a higher value to move into your neighborhood.
- Announce on your neighborhood website when you are hiring a good contractor to work on your home and ask the contractor to offer the neighborhood a discount for his services. This will help everyone save money and remind them to help take care of maintenance projects that help keep the neighborhood homes looking their best.
