Today is the Real Memorial Day - Please Take a Moment to Remember!

Many of us may not know, but today, May 30th, is thMemorial Daye "real" Memorial Day.

Memorial Day honors U.S. men and women who died serving our country.

Memorial Day was first observed on this day in 1868.  It remained the official holiday until Congress passed the National Holiday Act in 1971, moving it to the last Monday in May (thus creating a three-day weekend).

My parents were married on this day in 1951.  My father was a veteran of World War II and was very proud of his service to his country.  He passed away on November 22, 2004 and is greatly missed by myself, my mother and all those who knew and loved him.

American FlagPlease, take a moment on this Memorial Day, to honor those who have given the ultimate sacrifice to our country and our freedom.  And pray for a safe return to those currently serving our country.

Have a blessed Memorial Day!

Jennifer, Sometimes Memorial Day affects me, sometimes not so much. This year it has....My late father served in the pacific in WW2,  and I spent my time in Nam (68-69). For some reason I have had moments this year of remembering all the guys I knew back then. Gives me pause to think about a larger picture in life than day to day. Thank you for your post.

Amstate Realty - thank you for commenting and taking a moment to thank those who have served.

Kim - Thank you for your honest, heart-felt response.  Yes, we should all be thankful everyday we are here to enjoy our blessed lives.  And remember those who are no longer with us.

Kim - by the way, I forgot to mention.  My dad was at the Nuremberg Trials.  He always loved to tell everyone that!

Hi Jennifer,

Thank You for your Triumphant Tribute!

The greatest sacrifice is laying down your life for your friends.  Our fallen heroes have done that for us so we may be citizens of our United States of America.

My father was also a WWII veteran.  He told me many stories of courage and honor.

Thank you for reminding us of the true Memorial Day!

Jennifer, I did remember that date. Isn't it amazing how those dates can get moved around so we can get Mondays off.  They never have figured out how to do that with the 4th of July, Thank God!

Thanks for the comment Marchel!  Yes, it will be a sad day when the 4th of July is moved to a "more convenient" day.

Dale - no apologies needed!  I have been relatively quiet lately.  Many things going on.

Had a few free minutes today and had to visit one of my favorite folks on AR!

Have a great 4th of July weekend!  JENNIFER
