"Aging is the extraordinary process where you become the person you should have always been."
A post by Sheila Anderson yesterday reminded me of how grateful I am for the liberation I have discovered in the aging process. As I get older, and especially in retirement, I no longer feel the need to try to be something or someone I think others want me to be. I can truly embrace my own uniqueness. Others can either embrace it with me or not... their choice. I, in turn, embrace the uniqueness of my chosen friends.
When you work with the public in any line of work, and especially commission sales like real estate, it is generally prudent to keep many of your thoughts and opinions to yourself. Sometimes people try to drag you into their drama but you need to stay neutral.
As I have aged it has become less important to squelch these thoughts. My peeps and I have chosen each other and we are living an unemcumbered life... being ourselves.
At this point in life, I have found my Peeps with whom I enjoy being with and can feel perfectly comfortable in my own skin... and I am also perfectly comfortable being alone. I enjoy both.
It's a good place to be. Life is good.
