Just think if we didn't have a car. We would have to walk or bike to where we needed to go. As a kid, we never had a car until I was in the 9th grade. My parents said we didn't need one. We walked everywhere... to elementary school until middle school then we had to ride a school bus. Even then we walked to the bus stop. We walked to the local grocery store and to visit friends. Dad would walk to where his ride would pick him up to go to work in the coal mines. Once every two weeks, my mom would walk to a bus stop to go to town and buy groceries. She returned in a taxi full of groceries....(remember there were 11 children to feed). This was done twice a month. We never missed not having a car ... until we got one!
Nowdays, we go everyplace in our car even if it is two blocks away. I think about my childhood days when things were much simpler then. We would walk for miles and visit our friends, play in the woods, and always home before dark. My siblings and I always enjoyed walking and seeing all that nature had to offer. Our parents never worried about us.
Times have changed. I have great memories of my childhood. But, today I am thankful for my car. I couldn't sell real estate without a car, get to my appointments, visit my family that live an hour away, visit friends, go to a movie, go out to dinner and so on. I guess as a child we didn't need a car.... but I do today!
My first car was a Dodge Dart convertible and had push buttons for gears... it was an amazing car, but was truly a lemon! My second car was a light blue Ford. Then I had a wonderful fun-loving red Volkswagen convertible; a pumpkin-colored, vinyl top Pontiac with swivel seats; a black Toyota (my first new car); a black Lexus, a white Lexus and now I have an RX Lexus 350....I am sure I left out a few cars in between....can you remember all the cars you have owned.
I am so thankful for my car!
