How Many Gardeners in Hawaii Love Their Jobs?

By
Real Estate Agent with Elizabeth Anne Weintraub, Broker DRE #00697006

As with most things in life, no matter how refined the details, sometimes you've gotta kiss a bunch of frogs to find a prince. Just the matter of odds. And pricing. One guy offered to be our Hawaii gardener for $40 a month, and he came only once a month, too. For 15 minutes. By picking up a ton more houses in our community, he was earning $160 an hour. So he paid his workers ten bucks an hour.

They descended on our street like blowhard locusts. Now, most of them are gone. We blasted through a few more. However, now our last gardener, a guy who lives on my street, sent me a video, which I have posted in my blog today. You can read more in my personal blog today at this link: Settling on a Hawaii Gardener for our Second Home.

Elizabeth- how sweet of him to send you the video. Love your porch area. When we lived in Northern VA, we were so lucky to have a landscaping company who did a thorough job. On the other hand, the company we used to have here in VA constantly broke our sprinkler heads and never fixed them.

Kathy Streib He only showed a small portion of our back lanai. We have side gardens and a really large open front garden. When I first thought of buying a house in Hawaii, I read a book that said trees grow 10 feet in a month. Well, they don't, but they do grow a good 12 inches over 30 days.

Elizabeth, finding good contractors for most things sometimes can be challenging!    One of my friends just gave a deposit for some work in her basement and never showed up again, and she never saw her $1200 deposit again.  UGH!

How cool!  I love that your new gardener sent you that video to show you what he's done.  He really does love what he does.

It is so hard to find good dependable help. Not being there all the time makes it even worse to monitor. Looks like you might have a good one now.

I'm blaming it on the holiday, Elizabeth.  But, somehow, I missed this post when you first posted it. There is a vast difference between gardeners who love their work and those who don't.  I've had both kinds at my home.  My current lawn guys have been with me for over 13 years now.  They are wonderful.  I don't know what I'd do without them!
