Ice Skating by the Sea

The holiday season is here, and it’s time once again for the very popular Ice Skating by the Sea at the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego, the 14th consecutive year. As far as I know this is the only beachfront ice skating in San Diego...and maybe in California!
Can you imagine ice skating under a bright blue sky with palm trees waving, the sun shining, and a gorgeous beach and ocean just a few steps away!?
It’s possible you MAY need a sweater, especially with our ocean breezes, but generally at this time of year you can expect temps in high 50s to low 60s at the beach, sometimes better!
Of course there is no snow to worry about!
The Hotel Del Coronado is a San Diego icon, a special place by the beach and ocean. It’s well worth a visit for dining, or just drinks, in particular during the holidays, despite the crowds, when the property and hotel are beautifully decorated. In addition to the shopping in the area the people watching is great fun, and you can watch or join the skaters!
You can also enjoy reserved seating at the rink-side Frostbite Lounge with fire pits, comfy seats, and beverage and food service (here’s the menu).
Skating by the Sea at The Del opened Thanksgiving Day, and remains open through January 1, 2019! Some of the proceeds from this popular event benefit the San Diego Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Monday - Friday from 4 pm – 10 pm
Saturdays from 10 am – 10 pm
Sundays from 10 am – 8 pm (same for Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve)

Christmas Dec. 24th & 25th - 10 am – 8 pm
New Year’s Eve – 10 am until 8 pm; New Year’s Day - 10 am – 10 pm
The cost is $30 per person in advance ($35 same day at the rink). Skating time could be limited to 90 minutes, depending on how crowded it is. Skates are included! Reserve your skating by the sea passes here! No in and out privileges will be granted, and participants must sign a waiver (parents must sign for those under 18).
