Sign Agents and why do people stay with them??!!

I have seen more and more cases where someone lists their home with an agent and all they get for their home is a sign in the yard, an MLS listing, and an ad or two in local papers and magazines.  Then the agent sits back and waits for the buyers to come to them.  I recently was speaking to an agent and they said "Oh how great it is I remember one day selling 5 homes while I was painting a room at my house".  I mean come on people and then they wonder why there DOM average is so high.  But, clients sit there and will reup with them after six months or a year. 

I just don't get it.  So someone please explain to me the hypnosis trick or what they are using to drug these poor people with so that I can either give them an antidote or snap my fingers and they will wake up.

I don't know....we dont' have many expireds around here for me to go after...Its annoying, being fairly new and VERY hungry - I would work a lot harder to sell a listing....but people trust the "Big names." It could be that they let them list at "whatever price" and since they invest nothing - they don't pressure the seller to lower it???? Who knows????

Tell me about it.  We have a boutique brokerage in town that is just in this immediate area but, they way they carry on and tout themselves you would think they were international.  The higher end home sit there and list with them but, then they wonder why they do not sell.  It is maddening for me.  So I just wait until they have been shop worn and listed for a year and then after it has expired and they are finally fed up with them I try to get in.  If I just get some face time I can convince them and then get their home sold.
