The Hawaiian Humane Society is inviting keiki throughout our community to attend Deck the Howls and read holiday tales to animals awaiting adoption. The children benefit by practicing their reading skills in front of a non-judgmental audience and developing empathy to help make compassionate, responsible choices when interacting with animals in the future. The animals benefit from the time and attention of the youth.
Deck the Howls will be on Wednesday, December 12, from 5 to 6:30 pm, at the Hawaiian Humane Society. The event will start with a tour of the Society’s campus and then families will have the unique opportunity to enjoy a story with cats and dogs available for adoption. When participates are not reading to animals, they will have the opportunity to make special treats for the animals awaiting adoption.
The event is open to youth ages six and up. To ensure the safety of children and animals, we ask that one adult per family is in attendance. The Hawaiian Humane Society will have some books available, but families are encouraged to bring their favorite stories to read to the animals. This event is limited to the first 15 youth who register. To participate in this event, please click here.
This year, the Hawaiian Humane Society is partnering with the Humane Society of Missouri – as well as additional animal shelters across the country – to make Wednesday, December 12, 2018, a national howl-iday!
