I really haven't been much for motivational posts.  But after being on AR for several months now, I think I am a believer...

A few weeks ago a good friend of mine here in Orlando - Carlene Julian, real estate agent of many years - mentioned the 2 ft. rule.  I had never heard of it.  We were talking about just cleaning up our houses and preserving some sense of order.

The idea is simply you tackle just 2 feet at a time. Well, how clever and easy could that be I said! So instead of thinking to yourself, "Oh my word, I have 7 rooms to tackle and the idea is so overwhelming I don't know what to do.  And the garage is a total wreck" -- you simply start with one small section and get it done.  A 2 ft. section.

And as you get that 2 feet cleared and in order, you realize a sense of accomplishment~!  And this idea that you can actually get just a little bit done at a time grows on you and you pat yourself on the back and start another section of... just 2 feet.  If you get infected with the idea maybe the third or fourth time you will go beyond that 2 feet and keep going.  Eventually, you will be done and the task will be completed.

You will amaze yourself so much at that point that you might think about other tasks that you have been putting off due to their perceived overwhelming nature.

Think about making just ONE cold call a day.  Just start assembling your list of emails and addresses for direct mail marketing, then send out two a day.  Consider maybe dropping one food item or bad habit that you KNOW is not doing you any good.  Put on your running shoes; well, just buy them at least and then walk around in them - then a day or two later start a simple jog halfway down the block, etc.  Call just one of your clients a day and congratulate them on a recent success.  Write just one paragraph a day on that blog you want to post.  Just kick-start the project that must be done and get a bit worked out.  Reach out to someone that needs just a little bit of your help, etc.

Do you get the picture?  At least take two steps forward and no more than one step back!

Well, about a third into this writing I had to google this idea to see if it was original or not and lo and behold: there is a book out titled:

The 2 Foot Rule: A common sense guide to cleaning up your life 2 feet at a time.

Amazon has a synopsis below.  Remember, just take two feet at a time...

In this personal and informative book, Michael Beck helps you understand that no matter how big or small your problems are, you can work through them calmly--2 Feet at a Time. Everyone has issues, but often we avoid addressing them. Sometimes we can barely keep our heads above water. Consider The 2 Foot Rule your "life raft." In the book, Michael focuses on 17 areas of our lives that we all can take a look at and work on 2 Feet at a Time. The book is a quick read and will inspire you to take the next step to cleaning up your life.

Will this change your life?  Maybe.  You are the Captain of your ship~!

Dear Rain,

Genius! I know it as the elephant rule. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. After a while, those 2 feet or bites add up.
