"In German folklore, where Nutcrackers originated, the Nutcracker will bring good luck to your home and protect your family."
According to the MagicOfNutcrackers website:
"Legend says that a Nutcracker represents power and strength and serves like a trusty watch dog guarding your family from evil spirits and danger. A fierce protector, the nutcracker bares its teeth to the evil spirits and serves as the traditional messenger of good luck and goodwill."
If all that is true, my home is well protected. A couple of days ago I posted a picture of part of my nutcracker collection James Dray said he wanted to see the rest of them. Although this isn't quite ALL of them, this is the music box portion of my collection. They stand in my kitchen window, offering up music on demand.
While on the Nutcracker subject, I'll mention that 25 miles west of Wenatchee in the little (but very well-known) Bavarian-themed town of Leavenworth is an amazing Nutcracker Museum. They have an extensive and historical collection of Nutcrackers of every imaginable kind (and a few more). If you have time, click on the link and peruse their website for all kinds of info on Nutcrackers. In addition to their regular website, they manage a Kids Love Nutcrackers website too! It features lots of info and fun activities for the kids.
I pray that your home is warm and safe and well protected this holiday season and all through the year.
Hi James Dray
I started the collection in about 2006 and actively added at least one a year (sometimes more) for several years. I am not actively adding now unless I see a Nutcracker that speaks to me... so to speak.
Hi Sheila Anderson ,
They're a fun group to hang out with and they seem to be protecting me, as legend has it.

Hi Amanda S. Davidson ,
I am not actively collecting any more but I do buy one occasionally if I see one that strikes my fancy. I don't want to be like a crazy old cat lady and have them overrun my house. LOL

I didn't know about the protection offered by nutcrackers. That's quite a tale.

Holy moly you are very well protected with all those nutcrakers! I didn't know the meaning of them - that is very cool. I have a bunch of Santas but no nutcrakers. Honestly I don't have room for them all anymore....and started giving some away last year.

Hi Myrl Jeffcoat ,
It seems to be working so far, even when they are packed away after the first of the year.
HI Anna Banana Kruchten CRB, CRS 602-380-4886 ,
I've heard from a few others that they've been giving away their nutcrackers. Children are especially fond of them. Maybe that explains why I like them. I'm just a big kid.

Hi Hannah Williams ,
Wow... who knew Teddy Bears could be such a great investment! I doubt my Nutcrackers will ever be worth much but they're fun.
Hi Ron and Alexandra Seigel ,
A river cruise in Germany would be amazing. I love watching craftsmen and women work their magic.
Hi Carol-I love Nutcrackers as well but don't have the number you do. I hope you don't mind but I had to share a photo of my neighbor's Nutcracker collection. She has them out on her porch.

Hi Kathy Streib ,
Oh MY! Now that's a collection! I would be afraid to put mine outside. If a wind came along, they'd be all over the place. Thanks so much for sharing.
Hi Rebecca Gaujot, Realtor® ,
If I add to my collection, I would like it to be some larger ones. My biggest one is only 2 feet tall.
Hi Tammy Lankford,
They are a fun addition to the Christmas decorations and make great pre-Christmas gifts.
Hi Carol:
What a fun post! We have a small Nutcracker collection that we bring out every year, and it was always fun for the kids when they were growing up. I would love to see that museum you mentioned!
Jeff
