Inspirational thoughts for 11/29/18

by Patricia Feager

"Christmas waves a magic wand over this world,

and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful!"

---Norman Vincent Pearle

I'm not interested in who believes or who doesn't believe in Christmas. Or whether you believe it is too soon or not. I do believe this is a special time of the year. At night, you can see the lights on Main Street in Grapevine, TX. To me, it looks like a Norman Rockwell town. I like to see the shops closed at night to see the silent power of lights and the magic that waves over this main shopping area close to Flower Mound.

When I walk or drive through old town Main Street, there is a mysterious longing for the upkeep of traditions that were good for me growing up in America. Seeing what store merchants do to their shops raise up my feelings of hope in believing Christmas is a special time of the year. As, I meander down the streets at night, the lights are brightly shining, not to be gaudy but be drawn to some type of magic that is impossible for me to describe succinctly.

I am humbled with gratitude for the freedom to uphold traditional values at a time of the year when many believe Christmas brings people together. I know, I am one of those who doesn't always have the privilege of celebrating Christmas the way I would choose; however, this time of year, isn't about me. As this store merchant reminds me, "Good Things for All Seasons," is a time to celebrate the good and to remember, "to everything, there is a season." To be reminded of birth, traveling afar, twinkling stars, sledding, a Christmas Tree, hot chocolate, white winter snowflakes, but most of all family and friends, I am thankful and forever moved by my faith to fear not and to celebrate this joyful and meaningful holiday.

Will Hamm - To quote Brian England "Ha-Ha!" This gal hasn't received presents for many, many decades. But I do enjoy giving. I hope all good things come your way.

Wow, it is very rare that I am quoted!  Maybe I will end up in one of Will's posts with quotes, haha.

I am often amazed at the beauty in decorations this time of year. So many talented artisans. I just love when my decorations are Pinterest worthy, which usually comes from me telling my husband what I want! He is the family artist.

Anne Corbin - I am also amazed; it's as if amazing grace blankets the shops and homes of many communities. There really, really ARE many "talented artisans!" Supporting them at this time of the year is a great way to support the local artists. In my opinion, nobody does it better!

You're lucky to have such a creative spirit for a husband! Letting him know what you want and he delivers - well! That is every girls dream!

Hi Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI that's certainly a photo that shouts out Christmas is here.... of course, until we have snow on the ground that remains for more than a day, it never feels like Christmas in MA....

Patricia not many decorations have started to go up around here yet, but I am sure that will change quickly over the next week, and then will be saying the same thing as you

Barbara Todaro - I know exactly what you mean. After moving to TX from Chicago it never felt like Christmas again. Occasionally, we get snow, but not for long. They do start early here in TX.

George Souto - With climate warmer here than out East or up North, people enjoy the decorations and Christmas lights for a longer period of time. But of course. It won't be long before you're blogging all about it.

Oh, I love the photo, Patricia! Absolutely gorgeous and like you, I feel there's something so magical about the traditional Main Street USA Christmas. It takes us back to childhood...and simpler times...and Santa...and BEING Santa when the boys were little!

It just puts you in the spirit...and yes, it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas - everywhere you go!
