What does this mean "to do business you must be in business"? Business is an arena that functions for a purpose and specific end result. It is a bare bones operation raw and precise leaning heavily on cause & effect dynamics.  Anyone can do business but being IN business is a frame of mind and where success awaits anyone who wants it! The secret to business success is out. Practicing business however remains the challenge

ATTITUDE 

Number one rule: You have to like people! These are not mere words but an underlying action that propels your success. If people bother you, this is a bad sign. Do not doubt this and it is wise to respect it while you are at it. It doesn't mean to tolerate people either. You must be willing to serve as in customer serving and like it for their sake then yours. Fail here and blame propelled by excuses will be at your door

AVAILABILITY

When dealing with the public at large which is a mixed bag of beliefs, actions & responses & while we cannot control them we can however support their visiting by being consistent and available. Being reachable is no myth but necessary to success long & short term. You are a slave of your business not the other way around. 

PROMISES

Whatever you are selling or whatever service you are providing is your promise which must be kept, honored and maintained during your business hours. Fail here and the kiss of death is alerted and will visit with you soon. Letting someone down called a slight is very personal and hurtful. Human nature will not visit with this again

IT'S ALIVE

A business is now operating as a pseudo person not unlike an artificial intelligence. You or your employee, voice mail or greeting is the front lines and behind that is your mission statement, purpose and business model. Not only will your customer base feed your success but they do two other valuable services for you!

WORD of  MOUTH #1

People like to talk! They don't need a reason but if you want to give them one you certainly can. If someone gets what is represented they become satisfied and support your operation not only by being a frequent customer but by speaking well of you to others. The opposite is deadly true too! Make or break rules here

FEEDBACK & INPUT #2

How are we doing is sometimes not easy to see or know. There is always something that can be done better, faster and more productive and people using your products or services will tell you all about it! From there you have just to implement or tweak and your business bar will be raised and hopefully your profits as well

TIME IS THE WILD CARD

When will your results come in? How long will it take? Can you sustain for that period of time? Everyone wants to believe that they hit the ground running and stay that way. Some do. However, it is prudent to prepare for the worst because success attracts take-aways. Anti-success forces have to eat too. Deny them but don't be in denial about them! Finish what you start or your start will finish you

THIS HELPS TREMENDOUSLY

Passion! This drives success through stormy weathers and prevails. Oh you will take a beating here or there but stay afloat. Why? How? Because your love of what you are doing and the mere fact that your gifts, skills, talents and abilities are activated and running almost assures a predictable outcome if you believe this

WATCH FOR THIS STRANGE DYNAMIC

Self-sabotage! Yes, there is something in a human where when all is well and predictable that not leaving well-enough alone tempts one to interfere sort of fix what is not broken usually on an impulse and end up coming against yourself and success. If operating alone, explore changes before implementing them...

 

MOTIVES

Why are we doing this? What is our pay-off? If it is an ego driven dynamic put yourself on notice that not everyone agrees with your dream-world. If it is to make money, be careful not to activate scarcity to make that abundance. If to have something to do, something else will come along and take you with it. To give back? To become wealthy? To do it because you can...all of these need to be examined in the light of reality

END RESULT

Know yourself especially where you are weak. All during this start-up you will have a chance to see what you really believe in or don't and just how well you respond or don't and knowing yourself and your limitations can prove to be very valuable. Its the one we see in that mirror we need to know very well to succeed and I might add....the sooner the better!

So many great tips and pieces of advice, Richie Alan Naggar ... and it all pertains to our particular profession so well.  I agree with Kathy Streib ... too many aren't serious in their commitment.  How can they find success or be taken seriously when they do not??
