Ventura County Christmas Lights & More 2018
First off, let's talk about Camarillo's tree lighting and winter walk. This Friday, December 7th, visit Didzar Park (2400 E Ventura Blvd) between 5 pm and 9 pm. After a few live performances and photo-ops with Santa, watch the tree light up. For more information, call (805) 484-4383. Free admission for all ages.
Camarillo's official Christmas Parade takes place at 9 am on Saturday, December 8th. The parade travels along Temple Ave and Las Posas Rd. Afterward, visit Santa's Village at Community Center Park (1605 E Burney Rd). This also happens to be the location of the end of the parade. Vendors and live entertainment will be set up at the park all day long. For more information, call (805) 482-1996.
What would the holidays be without gingerbread houses? In addition to the multitude of Ventura County Christmas lights on display, Heritage Square in Oxnard hosts weekend tours of their facility at 715 S A St. Starting December 8th and continuing through December 30th, docents dressed up in period costumes lead guests on a guided tour of historic Oxnard homes as well as the sweet gingerbread creations on display. They suggest a $5 donation per person. Tours take place from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturdays and 1 pm to 4 pm on Sundays. For more information, call (805) 483-7960.
Christmas Tree Lane officially opens Sunday, December 9th. Travel along F St, G St, and the area along 5th & Palm St to see beautiful historic Oxnard homes dressed up in sparkling Christmas lights. The displays will be open for viewing between 6 pm and 10 pm every evening through December 26th.
Starting December 7th and continuing through January 2nd, downtown Ventura hosts a walk through Candy Cane Forest. Between 8 am to 9 pm each day, walk through more than 100 specially decorated trees at Plaza Park (651 E Thompson). Sponsorships for individual trees are still available. For more information, call (805) 641-1090.
After a stroll through Candy Cane Forest, enjoy Christmas classics under the stars at Plaza Park as well. On December 7th, the Plaza invites guests to wear their favorite pajamas while they watch the original 1966 cartoon "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" followed by a screening of "The Polar Express". Food trucks will be on-site if you get hungry. And Santa plans on making an appearance here as well.
Another time-honored Ventura County Christmas lights tradition takes place on December 8th: the Lighting of the Mast. Watch as curators at Channel Islands Harbor Maritime Museum light up the 75-foot tallship mast at 6 pm. Visitors watch the lighting for free. However, if you want a seat for the Parade of Lights through the harbor at 7 pm, they'll cost $10 per person. For more information, call (805) 984-6260. Outside of the museum's grounds, feel free to scout out a good spot, set up your blanket or lawn chairs, and watch the Parade of Lights pass through the harbor.
If you miss the parade on the 8th, come back on December 14th and 15th for another Harbor Parade of Lights at Harbor Village. But this time, there'll be fireworks, too! Enjoy fun carnival rides, carolers, fake snow, holiday crafts, vendors (15th only), and much, much more. Events kick off at 5 pm each day. For more information, call (805) 477-0470.
Whatever your holiday plans might be this year, take some time to enjoy homegrown fun like these Ventura County Christmas lights and other events. It's the most wonderful time of the year. Celebrate it with the ones you love.
