Trump vs. China, Part III
This past weekend the twenty largest economies (the G20) met in Argentina. Normally, no one pays any attention to these meeting. The world Bank and The IMF think this is important, but very few others share their enthusiasm.
But this time it was different. Trump made the difference. Everybody was speculating what he would do. Would he meet with Putin? What about the EU?
And what would come of his meeting with Xi, the Dictator (Premier) of China?
Everybody watched. China caved. They announced a “truce” on the trade war. Oh yes, it is a war, but we have been in denial for 40 years. China has been “aggressively” abusing us ever since President Nixon opened trade with China. We allowed them to join the WTO, and they quickly abused that as well. They had Favored Nation treatment, Developing Nation status, and were allowed to have tariffs and non-tariff barriers to our products.
They sold us trillion of dollars worth of their products essentially tariff-free while we were kept out of their markets.
And we all know that what they made was crap. “Made in China” means CHEAP. Cheap in price, but also cheap in quality. How many of our pets died from eating poisonous pet food from China? Do you really want your family to eat anything “Made in China”? Well, you better stop eating shrimp because most of it comes from China.
Trump “agreed” to a 90-day truce last Saturday in Buenos Aires. And Trump has tweeted that the 90 days is firm. China MUST buy agricultural products (soy beans) immediately, reduce the 40% tariff on our cars, and make it easier for our companies to do business in China. If they fail to do everything agreed to last Saturday, repercussions will be swift and harsh.
Trump “recognized” the China threat to our economy years ago. He wrote a book about it. This isn’t new. Trump means to win this war. China must give in to Trump, or he just might slam the door shut. He could impose tariffs so high that nothing would come into the U.S. from China. They know it.
For the last few months they were “believing’ the Never Trumpers who were telling them that Trump was “going down.” It was wrong, and they now know it.
Trump won. But the trade war is a long way from over. Forty years of bad behavior can’t and won’t disappear over-night. But we are moving in the right direction.
Farmers and manufacturers need to “adjust” their plans not to depend on sales to China. They are also moving their supply chains out of China. China is going to "feel the pinch.”
China is very aggressive. They see themselves as the most powerful nation in the world. They are building military bases all over the world. They want to control the world. They have made major inroads into Africa. And now they want to do the same in Central and South America.
Trump won’t allow this either. He is reviving the Monroe Doctrine. China better watch their step. Trump means business.
If you are in that group that doesn’t like President Trump, you should take a hard look at what he is doing to protect you and our way of life. China is not our friend. They are waging a cold war against us, which could easily become a hot war.
We must be strong. We must stand shoulder-to-shoulder. Quit listening to the Trump haters in the mainstream media. This is much too important for partisan bickering.
God bless Donald Trump.
Make America Great Again.
