Ask An Ambassador: Do You Have A Blogging Formula?

I'm an engineer and depending on your outlook when it comes to blogging I'm either really stubborn or really dedicated. Kids have been born and started elementary school since the last day I didn't post.

A key to maintaining that streak besides just being stubborn is having a method to the madness, a formula for what works for me.  It takes away a bit of the brain strain because it's not a daily reinvention of the wheel.  I've got a headstart in my thought process, it's just a matter of putting the blocks together.  There's some repetition, but not in such a way as to make the Google bots decide I'm punching out duplicate content.

My market reports follow a formula:

Intro paragraph + Content definition + charts + Data review + Seller/Buyer Advice + Call to Action = finished post


Subdivision posts also loosely follow a formula:

Announcement about community + description of community + pertinent details + call to action = finish post (add pictures to complete)


New construction posts also have a path:

Announcement about community + description of community + new construction specific call to action = finished post (add pictures to complete)


General info posts tend to follow a formula too:

Analogy/tie to personal experience + transition to real estate + call to action = finished post


So depending on the topic of the day, the thought process is already established.  I can take an old post to use as a starting point and modify as needed for the new topic.

Pull pictures from my personal stash or go to as I did for today's post.

I keep an eye on my results.  Which posts rank best?  Can I figure out why THAT subdivision post did better than another?  If so, adjust my building blocks a bit.

Net result is I can be more efficient with my efforts.

And don't forget, ActiveRain has provided quite a few starting templates (just look for the Blogging Templates block just to the right of the blog editor window for Subdivisions, market reports, local events and more).

Okay, another day, another post :)

Bill,  I never thought of it that way, but I have used the blogging blueprints and worked off them.   You make it seem so easy but putting it into almost a mathematical formula.  I've got to get back to blogging too.

I'm planning to set up a similar strategy for all social media posting in 2019. If it is systematized it will go together easily and well, without it taking an unwarranted amount of time. Or such is the plan. Glad to hear it works for you--encouraging!

I actually didn't know there were templates on AR. I'll have to take a peek.

As for a template, I do have one for market reportts, which makes those easier.

Hi Bill- having a formula makes it a lot easier especially since many of the posts are ones that agents will do regularly!  And as you said, look at the stats to see what's working in case you need to tweak something.

I do have a daily theme unless I'm compelled to write something else. I deviate from my themes more often than not as inspiration strikes me. The only ones I have been truly dedicated to are my Saturday series and Monday Round-up.

And Liz and Bill Spear ....I swear they will ingrave on my tombstone, "He could never stick to his routine." I mean really. Now, with it cold outside, it's sooooo easy to sleep in. I hate going to the gym because you have to bundle up and all. (Sad excuse, right?) 

But my morning routine and gets out off track. As does blogging. I did have a fellow blogger (not on AR --gasp) teach me some tricks with saving sample posts in draft and then just copying them, changing the data and BAM..there's a post. And I can do that with both Market reports as well as community posts. 

So many little time as Tammy Lankford, would say.....
