Hi Everyone! Just watched this incredibly beautiful and meaningful funeral service -
George H. W. Bush, 41st President of the United States. Our attention was brought to a life of public service and his giving and love to Family and his country. Striking were the tributes and words of praise: A man of - character, honor, dignity, sincerity, love, kindness of soul, courage, humor, humility, mild-manners, empathy, compassion...a 'great and noble man.'
The following are the quotes of this great man. Jane
"America is never wholly herself unless she is engaged in high moral principle.
We as a people have such a purpose today. It is to make kinder the face of the
nation and gentler the face of the world."
"History will point out some of the things I did wrong and some of the things
I did right."
"Be bold in your caring, be bold in your dreaming and above all else,
always do your best."
"No problem of human making is too great to be overcome by human
ingenuity, human energy, and the human spirit."
"International exchanges are not a great tide to sweep away all differences,
but they will slowly wear away at the obstacles to peace as surely as water
wears away a hard stone."
"In crucial things, unity. In important things, diversity. In all things, generosity."
"Think about every problem, every challenge, we face.
The solution to each starts with education."
"We don't want an America that is closed to the world. What we want
is a world that is open to America."
"You cannot be President of the United States if you don't have faith.
Remember Lincoln, going to his knees in times of trial in the Civil War
and all that stuff."
"You know I vowed when I became President not to talk about the
loneliest, toughest job in the world and I didn't."
I felt this service held at Washington National Cathedral was dignified and
holy. Leaving the steps of the Cathedral, the last hymn and seeing his
son, 43rd President George W. Bush standing in deepest of respect and one
could feel the depth of the holy moment: (that last hymn) -
Holy God, We Praise Thy Name
