If you are moving to the Metro Detroit area then you may be wondering what are the best communities to live in South east Michigan. It is always tough to move even when you have knowledge of the area. The stress of packing and moving is hard for buyers and sellers. You never realize how much stuff you have accumulated until you start packing to move. It is hard to decide what to keep or what to discard. If you are moving to Michigan click here.
So where should you chose to live in the suburbs of Metro Detroit? First of all let's go over the criteria I use and why I use them. The reason I use this criteria is because it is against the law to steer any relocation buyer to a specific city. If you come to me I can't discourage you from, or steer you from the City of Detroit. I can't steer you away from Detroit if you have a family. But I can point you to the information of poor graduation rate in the schools, the lack of supplies in the schools, the slow response time of the EMS, the lacking city services, and the high crime rate. The law about steering is put into place to keep discrimination from happening. So that is why a Michigan realtor won't answer questions of race, or religion about a specific city. We can point you in the direction of where to find the information but WE CANNOT SAY IT TO YOU.
So that is why I base my opinions of why some cities are better than others to live in. I base my opinions on facts about good school systems and low crime. It's easy to find information about schools and crimes about specific cities. All you have to do is google it. All this information is at your finger tips. Google "compare schools", bing "crime statistics". You don't want to end up in a bad community in Southeastern Michigan.
The city of Detroit is no different than any other major city. There are many good residents that live in the city. Good honest, hard working people live there, but there are also thugs, drug dealers that make the city look bad. There are bad sections like all big US Cities. Areas that you want to stay out of. The chance of crime is much higher in those neighborhoods. The mayor and many people are trying to make Detroit better, but it will take times.
First of all I want you to look at a map of Detroit. This is a basic guide on how to view the cities around Detroit. Detroit as you know from the media is improving, but it has a long way to go. It still has a high murder and crime rate. That unfortunately sometimes overflows into the surrounding cities around Detroit. So if you look at the first ring of cities around the city of Detroit in most cases you are going to find a higher crime rate than cities further away from the city. There are a few exceptions but in most cases that is true. You will find higher crime rates and lower school ratings in the first ring of communties around the City of Detroit. Some of the exceptions to this rule is the Grosse Pointes, and Dearborn, and Dearborn Heights. Though you will find higher crime rates in those cities the closer you are to the border of Detroit.
The 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th rings of communities will have what a call random crime. An occasional robbery, domestic violence and even a murder. But they are safe cities where you can walk around with no fear of being mugged or shot.
Here is my list of good cities to live in...... no particular order as I do not want to be accused of being biased.
- Bloomfield Township
But there are so many good cities to live in like Troy, Sterling Heights, Canton, Livonia, and Allen Park to name just a few. Sure they don't have top ranked schools but they have good solid school sytems and low crime. If you are moving to Michigan give me a call at (248) 310-6239.
