Pantone is the company that serves as the "master authority"...Bible of color...for all things color...paint, ink, dyes...the company has the formulas for how each hue is mixed...how much of this and that. In days gone by...every piece of graphic art...brochures, business cards....all things printed...matched colors to the swatches of pantone colors.
Unlike the paint companies...they have no vested interest in one color over another...their announcement of their choice of color of the year is not "colored" by any potential profits or sale of one shade over another. It has been described in a press release, the company shares that the "sociable" hue is a "reaction to the onslaught of digital technology and social media increasingly embedding into daily life, we are seeking authentic and immersive experiences that enable connection and intimacy."
The color is called "Living Coral"...they perceive it as light...bright, orange with a tinge of gold...a bit different than the paint companies choices of quiet gray, earthy rust or blue/teal.
This concludes the "color selection/election" annual series for 2019. Wishing you a colorful and wonderful 2019.
