If I Could Turn Back the Hands of Time

This is a quote from a song, "If I Could Turn Back the Hands of Time" by Tyrone Davis.

How many of us truly wish we could turn back the hands of time? I'm not sure there's not one person that would say, NO Thank You. Especially with the knowledge we have today and all the experiences that we've gained.  I think most of us would go back and undo the wrongs that we've done and fix the errors or all of the "I told you so's" from our parents. It's amazing at the age I'm at now and with all of my experiences, I sit here and think about, would I really go back and change something? The more I think about it, I'm not really sure I would want to, because, if my bad experiences wouldn't have happened, I don't believe I would have made the decision to move from one state to another where I met my husband and had my children. Sometimes, it takes a bad experience to make a good outcome.  We learn from our mistakes and make better choices.  Now, on the other hand, if I would have the knowledge of turning back the clock and making sure I'm at the same place and the same time where I met my husband in order to have my children and not go through the bad experiences, then I can say YES to going back. We have no guarantees in life, except we know that death and taxes are for sure. So, when I hear this song, If I could turn back the hands of time, I can only appreciate all the decisions I made and reflect on the goodness of GOD and where I am today.

What I've learned in all of this, is that our past is just that our past, we can't change it, but we must learn from it.

Every decision that we made, whether it was good or bad has now brought us to where we are today, I'm truly thankful that I am who I am right now in my life.  Could it be better?, of course, we all can do better and be better, as my dad use to tell us, "there's always room from improvement". I go by my children's school motto, "Good, Better, Best, never rest until your good is better and your better is best!

So true. While we might regret some decisions we made along the way, they all brought us to where we are today.

I get it Graziella Bruner but there is just to much for me to go back and repair and I'm sure I'd end up just screwing up so I thank God for grace and leave it at that.

Graziella Bruner - I like the good, better best motivational sign! Also, "If I Could Turn Back the Hands of Time," by Tyrone Davis is one of my all time favorite songs! His voice and lyrics was soothing and rich with context and meaning! When he sang, I felt like he was singing directly to me. He really knew how to connect with his fans!

I was working at a Record Shop when this song was released. As an employee, after the boss left, he said it was okay for us to play all the new records that were released to help us get familiar with the songs and be knowledgeable when consumers came in and asked about them. We had a blast! All of us were so young and we would sing and dance and work until quitting time. It was so quick to learn the music and we really sold the records because when someone came inside and could only remember a few words, a bunch of us would start singing the lyrics and everyone thought we were sensational!

But to your point, there are some things I would have done differently but not much. Each action led to where I am today. If some of my actions were skipped, I would be afraid I would have missed out on the important things, like having my children. Also, if my dad wasn't so strict, I just might have become a nun. But he never would have allowed it! The funny thing is, when I asked him why, his answer was pretty ridiculous. My dad said because he didn't think it was fair for priests to smoke and drink wine but the nuns couldn't. Not that I ever smoked and I didn't drink until after I was closer to 30 years old. But hey, parents don't come with instruction books either, do they?

That is so awesome Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI - I can only imagine all the fun you guys had playing records and learning the new songs.  What fun! Thank You for commenting, and I truly do thank GOD that my parents were strict, it has made me the person I am today.  You can see in today's generation, that everything goes and now parents want to have their children be their best friends.  I told mine, I can become your friend once you're grown and on your own, until then I'm your parent and I'm responsible for you.  Well, thankfully they're all grown and they tell me the same thing I told my parents, "thank you for being strict and keeping me in line" - Maybe now is a good time to write a book on parenting.

Hi Graziella,
This is an interesting subject.  I am one of those who believes all things work for the good.  I have definitely made more than my share of mistakes but, as you say, it all leads us to where we are... or where we are going.  It's a process, isn't it?

It's so interesting to think about things I'd do differently if I had the chance. I could save myself a whole lot of heartache if I could re-live the past. I'd jump on the way-back machine in a heartbeat! :) Thanks for the fantasy.

I have had things happen that I wished I could have done differently. But sometimes I see that the end result was what was best for me.

Graziella Bruner I have made many mistakes but I am at peace with them . Most were with money . Gold cannot buy happiness ...It helps of course but it does not bring peace of mind .   I have thought about this many times --I am happy where I am

I love this, Graziella! You know, we do often think, "What if..." but, you know, half of the 'fun' in life are the experiences we have, good or bad. We learn and grow and I wouldn't want to change anything because I'm happy where I am today. Without those wonderful or challenging experiences, I wouldn't be here!

Happy Friday, Graziella!
