Throwback Thursday: The Red Phone Booth in Carlsbad Village

Red Telephone Booth in Carlsbad Village

I was out running errands and taking photos in the Village the other night. I had to include this red pay telephone booth that stands by the Carlsbad Inn Beach Resort on Carlsbad Boulevard and bordering the ocean - you can practically see the ocean from the phone booth!

I don't know the history, but there are references to it from 2007 online but I suspect it's been standing there longer. I didn't bother to see if it actually worked - no change! LOL.

You sure don't see many of these around, do you, especially the red British-style ones? When was the last time YOU used a pay phone...or found one that worked?!

Does everybody remember the red bat phone and the old 60s Batman show. That’s what I immediately thought of. Haha!

Always loved these red phone booths... such a shame they have increasingly disappeared.

Thanks for sharing your photograph. We no longer see many pay phones and a booth is a rare sight.

Hello Jeff - I recently saw a pay phone while out and about but it was rather ordinary. Haven't used one for quite some time. This one is definitely photo-worthy.

I think that if I was dealing with senior housing I would have a picture with a cape coming out of this with the slogan on my tshirt as Super Senior REALTOR®.

Good morning again Jeff. I haven't seen one like this in years. There are a couple of payphones at Tanglewood but I have never seen anyone use them.

I was going to ask if it still worked, but you already stated that you didn't try, haha.  I guess on a cold day, one could go in there to use their cell phone and stay warm, haha.

I have a vague recollection of seeing this phone last time we were in Carlsbad, and that was at least 5 years ago.  I love it.  A

Nice shot Jeff Dowler, CRS! There's a lot of good nostalgic memories from those old phone booths. Isn't it ironic how we went from party lines to extension phones at home. To private numbers for individuals within the family, to pay phones to get away from family or dorms, to being out in the open on Cell Phones.
