A double-tap occurs when two wires are connected to a circuit breaker that is only designed to accept one wire. Some circuit breakers are designed to carry two wires. To prevent fire, a circuit breaker must carry the load for which it was designed.

Lynn a home inspection is a must.  A homeowner is very foolish if they do not do one, and a good Home Inspector is worth his/her weight in gold.
