Mission Ridge Ski Area: Wenatchee, WA

"Skiing is a dance and the mountain always leads."

It's winter in Wenatchee and I thought it might be fun to show you a short video of Mission Ridge, the ski area 13 miles south of town.

This is where I learned to ski when I was 19 years old.  I took lessons every Saturday the first winter after I moved to Wenatchee. After I met my husband, we had a lot of fun skiing together on these slopes.

One of the beauties of Mission Ridge is it is so close to Wenatchee.  We were, literally, on the slopes less than 45 minutes from the time we left our house.  Mission Ridge is located in a 2,000 acre basin, with 4 chairlifts and 36 designated runs.  We get a lot of people from the West side of the state coming to Mission Ridge, even though there are two major ski areas much closer to them.  That is because of our dryer climate and the lighter fluffier snow.

Mission Ridge has a wonderful combination of runs for every skill level and there are plans for some major expansion over the next decade.

Enjoy the video.

Morning Carol.

Just looking at the snow, I know it would be too cold for me.  Do you still ski?

I love that quote, Carol.  I use to ski a lot in my 20s and 30s.  I can attest to the truth within those words.

I spent many hours on the mountain skiing in Juneau, Alaska as a girl and young woman. I too love the quote...great way to describe skiing. Must admit, these days, I'm not as excited about it - lots of money to do it and don't like getting cold on the lift ride. Spring skiing on a sunny day sounds good though. Haha.

Hi James Dray ,
No, I don't ski any more.  I stopped skiing when my husband had to quit due to his Parkinsons Disease.  Now, the older I get the less I like the cold.  I'd rather pack up my golf clubs and head south when the snow flies here.  Golf is safer than skiing at my age, too.

Hi Wayne Martin ,

The views of the valley are awesome from the top of the Ridge.  I also loved it when the clouds were covering the valley and we were skiing in the sun.

Hi Myrl Jeffcoat ,
Those were the days, weren't they?  Now I feel safer on the golf course than the ski hill.  Happy Sunday!

Hi Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD ,
It is expensive... especially for a family.  We always bought seasons passes so it was a good value for us.  Now I feel safer on the golf course than the ski hill.  LOL

Hi Carol Williams - What a great ski and snowboard area.  My son would love to snowboard here. I have only skied a couple of  times in Lake Tahoe. But there is something special being at the top of a mountain with outstanding views below.

Ah, see, I learned something here, Carol. I was not aware there were places to go skiing in Washington. I lived 15 minutes from several ski resorts but no urge to go. Tried it several times and was not good at it. I find I don't enjoy things I'm not good at. I have limitations. Plus, I dislike cold and snow.

Hi Sheri Sperry - MCNE® ,
You're right about the feeling of standing on top of the mountain and looking down on the views... then you just turn the skis downhill and go for it!

Hi Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents .
Oh My!  We have about a dozen ski areas in Washington.  Lots of choices.  I laughed at you saying you don't like things you're not good at.  Everyone starts as a novice.  It just takes persistence.  Some people do have more of a natural ability but anyone can learn to be relatively competent... even me.  LOL  I was never a great skiier, just a decent amateur. One of my favorite parts was coming home and getting in the hottub.  LOL

Hi Will Hamm ,
I wish I had learned when I was younger.  I think children are more fearless and have an easier time learning.  My husband knew it was time to quite skiing when he said his brain said turn and his body wouldn't respond.  Damn Parkinsons Disease!

Hi Paul S. Henderson, REALTOR®, CRS ,
Yes, it's bigger than one would think at first glance.  We get a lot of westsiders drive right past Snoqualmie and Stevens to enjoy our dry snow.  There are no accommodations at the mountain so it's great for the local economy, especially the hotels and restaurants.

Carol, great presentation for your ski area, and we have REALLY good snow right now, and think all our resorts are now open.
