Hi Elizabeth... with a 5 foot counter, I'd rather be safe than sorry. I have some great contractors here who would give you a good answer!

I'm sure you do, Nina, and all of their answers would conflict with each other!

Thanks for sharing this, I love this idea as I'm not a fan of seeing the brackets.
I think your decision to be safe rather than sorry was a good one, Elizabeth.
Elizabeth, I definitely had supports with my previous house for the quartz counters. Don't want to take a chance. They were not very noticeable, as they were more in the center, not on the ends.

I think yours were L-shaped and not flat and buried.
Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD The countertop installers had never heard of these support braces. I had to find a place to buy them and pick them up.
Myrl Jeffcoat While there are times I don't mind being sorry if I'm wrong, this is not one of them.
Hi Elizabeth- after reading this I'd have to say that you've done this a time or two!!!!!

I can see the conflict in the responses just here. I have been told that Quartz countertops do not need supports but granite does needs supports.

Francine Viola That is preposterous. Here is from Sciencing.com:
granite weighs in at 19 pounds per square foot. Because its density is about the same, a foot-square slab of quartz of the same thickness will have the same weight.
You certainly did your due diligence in ferreting out an answer that left you with peace of mind, and worked aesthetically.
We are going to be doing this soon. Timely topic, and I'm grateful you posted about it. Our overhang will be about 15", so we will defintely need supports.
