The buzz is circulating about Apple making a major expansion in the Austin area: Apple to build $1 Billion campus in north Austin
Many feel this is not a bad consolation prize after Amazon decided to head East. Apple could become the city's largest private employer, vaulting past HEB and Dell. The new facility will be less than a mile from its existing 38 acre Americas Operations Center on Parmer Lane on a 133 acre campus, powered completed by renewable energy. We will be hearing more news in the weeks to follow as Apple did not disclose the exact location of the site. Speculation is Robinson Ranch appears to be the only viable tract of land for the site.
Initially the campus will be built for 5,000 employees with the capacity to grow to 15,000 people. There will be 50 acres set aside for preserved open land. Apple hopes to open the first building of the new campus by 2021.
Austin is already Apple’s largest corporate hub, outside their headquarters in Cupertino, California. Currently there are 7,000 people employed by Apple in Austin. According to Apple, jobs created at this location will include a broad range of functions such as engineering, R & D, operations, finance, sales and customer support.
Stay tuned for more information about Apple’s expansion. This is one more company who envisions Austin as the best place to work and live. Apple is betting their money on it.
In case you hadn't heard Resideo picked Austin for it's new Head Quarters. They spun out of Honeywell earlier this year and make a variety of home technology and security products sold under the Honeywell Home brand in major retailers like Lowe's and Amazon.com. Oh and did I mention that the Austin Chamber of Commerce estimates Resideo will generate $20 million in economic impact in Austin.
Austin's creative energy is a good fit with technology based companies. This proves jobs will continue to fuel our economy and the housing market here in Austin for years to come!
