What Do You Do For A Living?

Our brokerage had a luncheon today with a guest speaker who is an expert in networking and he posed an interesting question:  "What do you do for a living?".

What would appear to be the obvious answer "I'm a real estate agent", is the wrong answer.

Every stranger that asks that question probably already knows a dozen agents and may even be related to a few.  "I'm a real estate agent" makes me a commodity, just one of many.  There's nothing compelling about that statement.

 

So what do you do for a living?  What's the answer?

 

I've told some clients:

"I'm a real estate sherpa and I'm here to help you on your journey.  I've been up this trail many times and I know the hazards and I'll carry the heavy load for you."

 

Now there are many things I do for a living.

I study the market so my clients don't have to.  I'm able to tell them under priced, over priced or fairly priced.

I'm the guy that gives them the pros and cons of every house they're interested in.  I'll "unsell" a house just as quickly as I'll sell one.  I'm after ONE home for my clients, and it's THE right one for them vs. an "it'll do" home.

I'm the guy that will respond quickly.

I'm the guy that can bite his tongue to make sure the other side doesn't have an excuse to take offense.

I'm the guy that provides more public information about Cincinnati patio homes than any other agent or company.

You get the drift, what I do for a living? 

I take care of people.
