Baby Boomers Planning Ahead by Embracing Aging in Place Trend or Lifestyle Communities

Baby Boomers are embracing the trend of "Aging in Place"and are planning ahead.

More and more I am hearing from home buyers that they want all one level living or homes with elevators.  Baby boomers are embracing the next phase of their lives and are seeking features that will support an more independent lifestyle as they age.  Many want to remain in their homes and are making changes and modifications.  Others are selling their family home and moving to a home or condo that will be more suitable for their next phase in life.

Others are considering another option. Staying in their current homes, but remodeling the home to support a more independent lifestyle as they age.

Others opt for a brand new home already equipped with the features and amenities for a more independent lifestyle.

Here are some of the independent lifestyle features that they are asking for: Accessibility enhancements, ramps, lighting, accessible baths, wider doorways, no thresholds, maintenance free exteriors or zero lot line homes, elevators or stair lifts, touch controls on faucets and lighting.

Other features to consider are motion lights, especially in hallways, and baths.  Walk in or curbless showers and also walk-in tubs. Switches that are reachable from a seated position, slip resistant flooring or tile, and baths equipped with grab bars, and higher toilet seats.

Other boomers opt for more lively neighborhoods, with walkable places and great restaurants or even daily transportation to parks and beaches.

For example, one of the newest communities is Jimmy Buffet's "Latitude Margaritaville" in Daytona Beach which has been selling out and these boomers are seeking a more relaxed lifestyle with amenities and low maintenance living in this 55+ Active Adult Community.

Sally K. & David L. Hanson That was very smart that you thought ahead and considered what your lifestyle needs would be later on in life.
