The Southridge Rec Center has always been a great venue for unique events that celebrate certain hobbies. Sometimes there are less popular hobbies on display, which is great for finding likeminded people who share your interests. In other cases, there are popular hobbies, like the trend of Home Brewing Beer. This is by no means a new endeavor but has gained considerable traction in the past years. For those of you in our Highlands Ranch property management portfolio who enjoy home brewing or looking to get into it, you may want to check out this course that will happen next Saturday January 12. If you love beer and want to take the next step to learn how to brew your own, then this is for you. This class is put on by the Castle Rock Home Brew Supply Professionals and their mission statement is to provide you with the knowledge to brew a 5-gallon batch of beer, all inside the class. It is easy to make a homebrew and they will show you that. You’ll also sample tasters of home brewed beer and be able to purchase supplies needed to brew at home. Snacks will be provided. Tickets are $30 for advance purchases and $35 on the day of as long as there are still tickets available. You can get tickets online or at any HRCA rec center in advance of the day. If you want two interesting facts about home brewing, did you know it was illegal from Prohibition until Feb 1, 1979. President Jimmy Carter legalized it even though it remained illegal in many states until 2013 where Mississippi and Alabama were the last two states to official legalize homebrewing. It has caught on like wildfire for many people. Believe it or not, many of the Founding Fathers were homebrewers. George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Ben Franklin all tried their hand at home brewing.
