Staying Aware

Staying Aware

No, not "Staying Alive" and memories of the  Bee Gees, disco music and hair beyond belief plus more.

Not that.

But Staying Aware.

Driving your car for example.

Look beyond.

Look to the left.  And the right. Over there too.  Expect the unexpected.  Another car.

That pedestrian pushing the baby stroller approaching or in the crosswalk .

Staying aware.

Another the grocery store aisle.  You know the guy standing...looking...analyzing... all his choices...decisions, decisions.

He doesn't even see you and definitely doesn't notice you or anyone(or anything else);

Excuse me....deep in thought.

Not staying aware.

Now.  Think of your everyday life...people with who you interact...

it goes beyond staying focused...but staying aware.

Co-workers.  Clients.  Any other person.

Yes.  I ponder.  Because I can.

In fact, I may NEED to ponder.  You may also.  For any reason.  And for no reason too.

Go ahead.  Ponder.

Good Morning Michael Jacobs

It is always good to be aware. We all have times when we are not aware. The most disturbing unawareness is texting and driving

I think we get on auto-pilot - with life. So sad too, it's a state where we do things automatically and all the while our mind runs tapes and tells us about the garbage we have been fed, usually long ago, about ourselves and our perceptions. Mindfullness, and redirecting our thinking to acheive new beliefs takes discipline, but brings so many benefits. Mindfulness is also a state where we are aware of the now - the person next to us who looks sad, or in need of something?, the clerk who seems exhausted and beat down, what small gesture of kindness can we show to help?  Mindfulness also gives us the ability to see the beautiful symmetry in life - and see the yin yang necessary for full experience - without judgment. Aw, such a work in progress, I am, but working on it...still.

HI Michael Jacobs - I call staying aware being present or being in the present especially when you are preforming another task. Your mind needs to be on that task.  Watch, listen and act or react accordingly to what is happening in the present.

Hi Michael,
As you pondered, did you figure out whether that sign meant you could do anything or nothing

I've been making a point of focusing more on the here and now, and I do think that makes me more aware of what's going on around me at all times. We do need to pay attention!

Pondering is good for you.  "when I drive around I ponder, what went wrong with signage, the stuff all yellow and black...."

Awareness of people and trends (politics, economics) have an impact on you and you also can affect others by the qualities you exemplify...

PONDER THAT!  Thanks for the post, Michael!!

I have seen it where distractions completely take over. The result? We have been robbed in the moment! Eternity consists of never-ending moments but only for those who appreciate the present or now. Aware-ness shows respect for this system and if practiced correctly, courts it. Satisfaction & fulfillment is the coin of return....

So true!

Being situationally aware is also important as we, um . . . get older. It's amazing how many things I do that are automatic - except that 10 seconds later I can't remember if I did it! I try to really pay attention to everything so I know for sure.

Michael Jacobs ~ Happy New Year, MJ.... "Awareness"... -I'm at my best when my awareness is sharp. But I have to be aware. I am (as you know) a friendly person. I enjoy saying hi to strangers and striking up a conversation. Being aware is a key component to keeping very safe over the years

I'm not aware of very much in my surroundings usually.

I would walk right by someone in the grocery store and unless they said something wouldn't even know they were there. LOL
