Monday Motivational...It Begins With One Step
With everyone already headed out of the starting gate for 2019, I was reminded of a story I shared years ago.
If you’re like me, when there is a goal I have in mind or something new I want to try, I want to get there NOW.
My tendency is to want to go from Point A to Point Z in one giant step.
But that’s not always possible or a good thing, is it?
A friend that we met several years ago told of us his struggle to get his health back after experiencing a heart attack while diving out of the country. He was actually underwater when it occurred. By the way, he was in his late 60s at the time.
He was life-flighted back to the States and managed to survive the whole ordeal.
But then came the recovery. Just walking to his mailbox at the end of his driveway was a major effort. And because of that, he put on a lot of pounds.
He realized that this was not how he wanted to live the rest of his life. With the help of a good friend, he began baby-stepping his way to the life he wanted.
First, the mailbox, then down to the corner and adding steps each day.
Here’s what he told me…
You have to begin with one step at a time. You may not get where you want to be but you’ll be a lot further along than if you’d waited until you could take that giant leap.
Whatever you want to achieve, wherever you hope to go, don’t be afraid to baby-step your way there.
